Since the height of the pandemic, it’s been hard to find dim sum places that still use the carts, but Yank Sing to the rescue! This location inside the beautiful Rincon Center near the Embarcadero. It helps to have a Cantonese speaking grandmother! But worry not, this restaurant is very high class and you’ll get good service even if you don’t speak Cantonese, and thankfully not at the sacrifice of good quality authentic dim sum. The food was amazing! The egg custard tarts were particularly good (they really impressed my aforementioned grandmother)! Great for large parties (best to get a reservation) and the bill split evenly was not bad at all given the amount of food we all ate, just under $40 per person. There’s also a take out location right next door! A true San Francisco classic

This was definitely one of the more spacious and interesting locations to have dim sum as they have seatings outside their restaurant but still inside the building. The dining area inside was completely full during lunch hour on Sunday.

The food tasted slightly about average. The shrimp dumpling was not to my standard, though, as there could be more shrimp taste to it.

The service was overall good, though. We were approached by carts in a timely manner, and each time, we were politely asked if we were interested in any of the offerings.

The tea came in a clear tea pot, which was interesting to see. Also, the restaurant opted for using tablets to keep track of cart orders instead of using the more traditional method of stamping/noting on an order sheet. It is nice to see they went green with this aspect. However, this mindfulness ends with the constant replacement of the disposable paper cover over the table cloth.

Two of us ordered 9 dishes as we were a little excited. A little too much than our stomach can take. All dishes are great and better than most dim sum places in the south bay. Among the 9 dishes, we like dumplings, sesame balls, and bean curd roll a lot. Sesame balls are a little expensive at $15, but they are the best I have had so far (I like dessert a lot). The place is comfy, the dim sum carts are all around you. The jasmine tea uses true high quality tea leaves that is one of the best in Chinese restaurants I have been to. This place has been on the Michelin list twice (2016 and 2021). They deserve it.

This restaurant is the classic SF greed, food is slightly better than average, not remotely in the class of Canada or Hong Kong. Portions are small and the prices are high. Service was acceptable.

But for how much they charge they still added a “Employee health plan surcharge (5%) to our bill, their greed for profit seems endless. Am so tired of California overpaying.

Yank Sing Restaurant is a popular and award-winning dim sum place located conveniently, a 4 minute walk from the Embarcadero Station and close to the Ferry Building.  Restaurant is known as a more upscale dim sum spot in San Francisco.  Street parkings and free validated parking available. Note that the parking garage is tiny so beware if you have a large vehicle. Yank Sing is located inside the Rincon Center (part historical art museum, part offices and Post Office). We made time to walk around the lobby area to see the San Francisco history art murals. Yank Sing was situated in the middle of an atrium of an office building. We had lunch reservations for a group of 10 people on  Sunday morning around 10am in December. We were seated immediately by the hostess. This dim sum place was chosen primarily for their vegetarian dim sum dishes for some of our group members. The ambiance of the restaurant was the old school banquet style Chinese restaurant. We ordered lot of the familiar dim sum dishes such as , shrimp har now, egg tart, she mai, chicken feet, curry dumplings, scallop dumplings, lotus rice wrap, Xiao long bao, rolled rice , etc.  Special items can be ordered via QR code.  There were no standout dishes, however, dim sum dishes were piping hot whether from the rolling push cart or from the kitchen with the exception of the cold Chinese broccoli. Waitstaff was efficient, responsive and impersonal.  Overall, Yank Sing has decent dim sum dishes but definitely isn’t the best bang for your buck, so expect to pay premium prices for your dining experience.
