Zandvoort is the closest and most popular beach destination for Amsterdam day-trippers, a lively seaside resort town located just 30 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station by direct train. The beach itself is broad, clean, and well equipped with sun lounger hire, beach bars, restaurants, and water sports facilities, and the town behind the beach has a cheerful, traditional Dutch seaside character with plenty of cafes, ice cream shops, and souvenir stalls. The beach here has a raw, natural quality that sets it apart from the more developed resorts further along the coast, and the village itself, with its charming streets, independent cafes, and art galleries, has a distinctive character that rewards slow exploration. Wijk aan Zee is a firm favorite among Amsterdam residents looking for a quieter and more authentic coastal escape, and it is easily reached by train to IJmuiden and a short bus connection.
