Perched atop the Hassler Hotel above the Spanish Steps, 

 is one of those rare restaurants where the view competes seriously with the food — and the food still wins. Chef Andrea Antonini's one-Michelin-star "Error13" tasting menu reinvents Roman classics season by season: deconstructed, challenged, rebuilt. Intimate room, exceptional wine pairings.

The rooftop restaurant of Hotel Eden delivers one of Rome's most beautiful dining settings — and the one-Michelin-star kitchen gives it real substance. 

 serves refined contemporary Italian, with truffles shaved tableside and a tiramisu prepared in front of you. On a clear evening, the terrace view over the city is simply hard to beat.

Not every remarkable meal in Rome arrives with stars attached. These restaurants are redefining what Italian cooking looks like at its most considered — rooted in Roman and regional tradition, but pushed somewhere genuinely new.

 earned its first Michelin star with a tasting menu that blends Italian technique with Japanese-influenced sensibility — kombu dashi in the pasta, sweetbread prepared like eel, roe used with unusual creativity. The Prati room is calm and refined, the service warm, and the value exceptional for the level of cooking. Multiple reviewers have noted it feels closer to two-star territory.

 does something genuinely daring: it takes the sacred texts of Roman cuisine — carbonara, cacio e pepe, tiramisu — and quietly transforms them into something you haven't tasted before. Chef Riccardo Di Giacinto's one-Michelin-star kitchen is inventive but grounded, and the duck ravioli and savoury-sweet tiramisu have become quiet legends.

Tucked into a vicolo steps from Campo de' Fiori, 

 is one of the most personal restaurants in Rome. Chef Giulio Terrinoni's one-Michelin-star menu leans into seafood and shifts daily around what arrives fresh. The chef's table — an evolving menu built around the morning's best ingredients — is particularly special. Warm service, thoughtful wine pairings, intimate room.

📍 Vicolo del Malpasso, 9 — Campo de' Fiori | $$$$


Rome rewards the curious diner who moves beyond the most-booked addresses. These restaurants are less talked about, more intimate, and often offer the kind of meal that feels like a genuine discovery — the sort you return home describing to anyone who'll listen.

 has been one of Rome's most quietly distinguished dining rooms for decades — a one-Michelin-star address in a beautiful vicolo near Piazza Navona, run by three brothers with real conviction. Exceptional ingredients, zero ostentation, and a warmth unusual at this level. The seven-course tasting menu is among the most consistently excellent in the city.

The garden restaurant of the Hotel de Russie is one of Rome's great dining institutions — a wisteria-draped terrace on Via del Babuino with a Mediterranean menu that lets excellent produce do the talking. 

 is not a tasting-menu destination; it's a place for long, unhurried meals. The octopus is among the finest in the city, the wine list authoritative, and the setting on a warm Roman evening is close to perfect.
