Service was alright overall but food was utterly disappointing.

We ordered salmon soup and sauteed reindeer.

1) Salmon soup was small (although a main) and poorly seasoned. Had to ask the waitress for salt. Not worth the price. Salmon soup at "soup+more" in the old market hall is 100x times better.

2) Reindeer was drier than hell itself. Poorly cooked and way overpriced. Potato mash was fine.

At the end of the meal, the waitress did not ask us if the dinner went well/food was satisfying.

Do not recommend at all. We tried various restaurants in Helsinki, and although I cannot say this one is bad, but it is clearly overrated and overpriced. Probably because of tourism.

After reading the reviews, I had high expectations for this restaurant and came to try the Lohikeitto. Having tried this classic Finnish salmon soup many years ago, I have made it at home many times with much success, but wanted to try it at this classic-looking Finnish restaurant to taste how it is "supposed to" taste. I regret to report that I was very disappointed. The soup had very little taste to it, other than the cream and salt, and lacked the depth of my version, in which I use pre-made fish stock as its base and pieces of fat salmon cuts. Here, it was sort of watery, I suspect they had not used stock for the base, and used lean cuts of salmon in it. I prefer fatty parts, that make the soup taste real good. It was just an average taste to be generous, especially for the €17 price tag (appetizer portion)i Mine tastes a lot better at home. I cannot imagine anyone would spend €23 for the dinner portion and be happy with this soup!

I had the smoked salmon as my main dish. It tasted a lot better than the soup, partly because the quality of the smoked salmon was really high. It tasted fresh and smoky, and had the right fat content. Its visual presentation was good, the dish looked good, but again the taste was sort of two dimensional, dominated by the saltiness of the smoked salmon and the cream on the mushrooms. Not sure it was worth €30.

It was not the great culinary experience dining there, and the wooden chairs made a bot uncomfortable as well. I do not think it is a place that truly represents great Finnish cuisine.

It started good with a tasty carpaccio and unfortunately ended up with a feeling of a tourist trap.

As a main course we had the plate for two for 75 Euro and it was just a joke. A half sausage for everyone, three little potatoes (6 halves) and two tiny pieces of carrots. There were also some pieces of reindeer and elk. Nothing really special.

The price for the offered plate is just insane, even for finnish standards. It’s definitely too little for two adults. We told the waitress after the meal that it wasn’t enough, but she just smiled and said OK.

In other restaurants the offered plate would have been for one person or the waitress would have offered some additional food. But unfortunately not here.

My experience at Lappi was perfect! From the service to the food. Everything was excellent! The waitresses were ALL very friendly to me! I loved the salmon soup and the reindeer meat (I had never tried both before)!! The mashed potatoes were delicious too! A perfect combination on the plate! Even the dessert was fantastic! The decoration of the place is very cute! I found it all very charming! I highly recommend the restaurant. It's expensive, but for me, it was worth the experience!
