I love a hotdog. I live in the right country for it too - Sweden also loves a hotdog, best served by a put-upon looking guy sweating away at a flat-top grill in a kiosk, rather than in some gussied up form at a restaurant, which always somehow transpires to be a deflated, sad experience; either a kind of laboured culinary joke about the elevation of street food, or a sincere but over-complicated attempt to express the essence of an experience at the expense of its soul.

But. But, but, but…

When you’re stood at the kiosk, bun in hand, the mind can’t help but wonder - what if this was fresh, well made bread? What if this shrimp salad (yes, non-swedes, shrimp salad. Just do with it) was home-made? What, if you really dared to dream, if this sausage was a *little* meatier? Not a novelty hotdog, but just a better one?

Briefly, a few years ago, the chef Magnus Nilsson picked up that thought and ran with it, at a pop-up in södermalm, and it was great, but it was just a pop-up. A giant of fine dining having a bit of fun.

But this - @korvbyran, cooked up by another bunch of dreamers - this looks more permanent, and it’s GREAT. All the what-ifs above fully and beautifully realised, with affection for the original form, and no attempts to reinvent the wheel. They’re also serving tater tots on the side for goodness sake. What’s not to love?

Yes, it’s more expensive (though not a lot), and the guys standing at the grill appear to be real experienced chefs, so I think this name will probably end up dotted around stockholm and possibly beyond before too long, but I also hope they hang onto this little kiosk, because it really has a lot of soul.

They’re open 11-19, seven days, have a proper korvmoj menu, with only minimal twists, and also have a fridge full of really good beer, alongside all the usual soft drinks.

Excellent sausages, excellent tators (only tried the plain) - a fun sausage bar but for the foodies, not for the date (I mean it closes at 7 so that makes sense). Had the Reuben, could have some more cucumbers but fine. Next time I’ll go for the Bahn Mi.

Overall, a 5, it gave me everything I hoped for.

Its not like it was in the beginning, we use to go far to enjoy a meal here. Now we were let down, a new kind of untasty bread, not so tasty sausage and overall a disappointment. I miss how it tasted in the beginning…
