One of the best dining experiences I have ever had and truly the best end to end in San Francisco. From food to service and beware pairings, this restaurant deserves all the recognition it has received and more. Highly recommend for a special occasion or if you appreciate true service. What they have built is truly special and I cannot wait to return. The wine program is truly phenomenal - so we did one pairing and also ordered cocktails so we could try everything. I also want to add that it’s a fun environment to be in which makes it way more enjoyable than some of the other Michelin restaurants.

Had a really nice experience at Californios overall.

The tasting menu started out with a bang: the first 4/5 items were creative and delicious and had us super excited for the rest of the menu.

But the rest of the menu wasn’t as strong. There were maybe 3 or 4 tacos, all of which were really nice stand-alone items but became a bit repetitive when served right after one another. There were also a few other dishes that weren’t as impressive.

The dessert also wasn’t super strong: it had a fun presentation but was too sweet and felt like a missed opportunity, given how many bright, tangy flavours Mexican cuisine has to offer.

All in all, a lovely evening but the tasting menu could have been even better if it had fewer dishes but all of them had a strong, distinctive punch.

The difference between Californios and Lazy Bear was shocking.  Lazy Bear did everything they could to get us out of there under 1.5 hours while our meal at Californious was 3+ hours and felt relaxed and amazingly paced.  The wine pairing at Lazy Bear was trash while the wine pairing at Californios was expansive and delicious.  Service at Lazy Bear was disjoint while at Californios it was impeccable.

I can see Californios moving to 3 stars in the near future while if there is any justice Lazy Bear will drop to 1 star.

Californios even took us to the kitchen to meet the chefs and take pictures after the meal.
