Kuppelrain restaurant in Sudtirol is one of my top 2023 discoveries! This family run restaurant makes you feel in heaven with its fantastic food and friendly service.

I had an amazing evening. The food was superb, the local wine selection contained many very pleasant surprises and was overall very good, the location was beautiful and the service was amazingly nice. Such an amazing experience

If you happen to be in the vicinity of Merano in Alto-Adige, then you have to make the effort to go to Castelbello-Ciardes to Kuppelrain restaurant. This address is a must for any true lover of incredible food and wine, all of it local. We found the restaurant this morning on internet and discovered it at lunch on the first day of a road trip in Italy. Absolutely fantastic quality and superlative creativity - cacao pasta with local cheese sauce and black truffle - seriously? The whole family exudes talent. Father and son (21 years old) are Michelin star chefs and so is the mother, as the restaurant’s sommelier. One of the daughters is the chef pâtissier. Deserts were indescribably good. Excellent deep dive into wines from Alto-Agide, way beyond the big and well-known names, but with equal quality. It is getting harder and harder to surprise us, but I can tell you that this restaurant blew our socks off and we “just” had the bistro menu, as the gastronomic menu is only on offer in the evening. Added bonus - these are seriously nice people, the kind that you want to sit down with and talk with about food and wine for hours on end. Try it!

Food is amazing. It is all about great food and wine. We tasted food we never did before and you can tell the efforts the chef does to create it. Gluten free no issue.
Service is outstanding
Only thing which was not our thing is the silent atmosphere. It is not a fun atmosphere. I don't know why this needs to be like this in a star restaurant. Could be different.
