Went for my big birthday, and while the place looks amazing and you’re feeling from the start that you’re going to be taken care of, the food doesn’t raise to the expectations you might have for a 3 Michelin star place.
I’m not sure if it’s because we were tourists, but staff wasn’t really prepared to give us all the information (compared to other places Michelin starred or not) to take us through the journey they promise, and the food is just not memorable, mind blowing or has nothing to do with the expectations you might have for the price. I’m sure there’s a lot of craft and attention though!

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the poor reviews, considering the price tag and the 3 Michelin stars. While the staff were lovely and the food ‘nice’ enough, it is not worth the ¥50,600 price tag for Menu B (before drinks and 10% service charge). This set the expectation of an experience beyond average and 3x better than a mere 1 Michelin star. Sadly for me, this was not my experience.

The presentation and service were great. However, interesting dishes were interspersed with simply average lacklustre dishes. The ‘main dish’ of grilled tile fish at the end was underwhelming and didn’t taste especially fresh.

Perhaps if I had come for lunch and paid half the price I would not have felt so robbed, but I think 1/3 is closer to the price point I would have been happier with.

The whole experience is just art of perfection, super high quality ingredients and welcoming staff, you could taste different layers of flavors in the dishes. Really recommend this place for people who want to try fine dining kaiseki in Kyoto!

Kaiseki cooking is a really unique cuisine, around water, vegetables and seasonal products. We found our experience at Isshii Souten Nakamura outstanding, exhilarating and transcending.

The service is also out of this world. You have to let yourselves “go”… accept the challenge, and enjoy the unique cultural experience.

Flavors passed down from long time ago are still well preserved. Service is one of the best I have received.
