"An evening to remember!" That's how I'd describe my recent dining experience at Izakaya Bar & Terrace, nestled on the rooftop of the Sommerro hotel. Now, I'm no food critic, but I know good food when I taste it, and let me tell you, Izakaya didn't disappoint!

We kicked off our meal with TAK kimchi and edamame sprinkled with sea salt. The umami shiitake marinated mushrooms were a revelation, and the tofu maki was a pleasant surprise. But the real showstoppers? The kimchi, the marinated mushrooms, and the 10-piece sushi platter. Each sushi piece was a little bundle of joy, bursting with flavor. The kimchi had a kick that was just right, and the mushrooms? Let's just say I'm still dreaming about them.

Now, I've read some reviews mentioning poor service, but that wasn't my experience at all. The staff was attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home.

To wash it all down, we had kombucha. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out. It was the perfect accompaniment to our meal, adding that extra zing.

And let's not forget the setting - overlooking the Frogner neighborhood from the Sommerro hotel's rooftop, it was the cherry on top of a fantastic evening.

So, if you find yourself in Oslo and have a soft spot for Japanese cuisine, do yourself a favor and visit Izakaya Bar & Terrace. I know I'll be back! Trust me, you'll want to hit that 'like' button after your visit too.

What we were served was very far from Japanese food in terms of quality and taste.
Chicken fried in deep oil, tasting like from a cheap fast food restaurant. Salad with some random radishes and without any taste. Desert, chopped strawberries with some store bought cake. Do not recommend it at all.

At the bar ~ We stayed in the hotel (Sommerro) and we took our local friends for drinks and dinner. When we arrived (4 of us) no staff tried to welcome us. We stood at the corner looking for place to sit and we even had to wave for a staff attention. Not a good start for my liking.

I saw people dressed up and at least 3 ladies (different groups) carried Chanel handbag including me. So it tells me that this place is quite exclusive. But it puzzled me to see men in shorts.

Staff were miserable. No welcoming smiles to be seen. We had to flag for service.

On the terrace ~ Food was ok. Paper menu? Looks like menu has been wet and dried many times over. Our request for warm sake was turned down. The best of all, it’s crème brulee was exceedingly delicious!!  5 star for that. The Swedish waiter who served us was v nice and did a good job to make us comfortable.

All in all ~ Mediocre deco. Management (bar) has to improve on customer service pls.

One of the worst service experiences I've had in Europe. Main dish served before drink arrived; smaller appetizer simply never arrived; none of the multiple servers around *ever* checked in after my order was placed; seemingly forgotten (since other tables nearby did have a server check in); drink sitting empty for 30+ minutes; servers did find time to fold chairs away and clear tables all around (which started more than an hour before closing). STAY AWAY. Food was fine, but the absolutely abysmal service is a dealbreaker.

Top notch freshest food bursting with flavors and amazing rooftop location, but the best part was definitely breathtaking service delivered by Konstantin. We felt cared for since the moment we walked up to the restaurant entrance. Service delivered straight from the heart!
