Best Seafood Restaurants in Lisbon

 has quietly become one of the most talked-about seafood spots in the city. The space is modest and the prices honest — a rare combination in central Lisbon. The seafood rice is the standout dish, built on real stock and portioned generously. Arrive early or expect to wait.

is a Santos favourite that rewards those who book ahead. The kitchen focuses on grilled and garlic-dressed seafood, and the quality of produce is consistently high. The room is warm, the service genuinely attentive, and the overall experience is one of the best in the city at this price point.

 takes its name from the traditional Portuguese copper cooking vessel, and the kitchen makes excellent use of it. The atmosphere is lively, the staff warm, and the food consistently delivers. A reliable choice in the Baixa area that goes well beyond tourist-trap territory.

📍Rua dos Douradores 115 — Baixa | $$

 is the kind of place you stumble upon and immediately want to return to. Tucked into a side street near Graça, it specialises in whole grilled fish and shellfish priced by weight and cooked with confidence. The wine list leans into Vinho Verde, and the staff take evident pride in what they serve. Book ahead.

 offers a more contemporary take on Lisbon seafood. The room is intimate, the service considered, and the menu changes with what's fresh. One of the most underrated seafood restaurants in the city — and one that local regulars are in no hurry to publicise.

📍Av. Barbosa du Bocage 107A — Saldanha | $$

 sits on a wide pedestrian street near the waterfront in Alfama, and the outdoor tables make it a particularly good choice on a warm evening. The tiger prawns are repeatedly cited as among the best in the city. A strong option if you want quality seafood close to the centre without the Ramiro queue.

📍Rua dos Bacalhoeiros 28C — Alfama | $$

occupies a corner of Praça do Comércio with outdoor tables facing the square — one of the better settings for a seafood lunch in central Lisbon. The menu covers the classics: sardines, octopus, clams, prawns, and a solid seafood platter for two. Best visited at lunch when the square is at its most animated.

📍Praça do Comércio 70–71 — Baixa | $$

 sits in Belém, a short tram or taxi ride from the centre, and worth every minute of the journey. The seafood rice here is repeatedly described as among the finest in the city — clean flavours, exceptionally fresh produce, generous portions. The goose barnacles, when in season, are a must. Warm, neighbourhood feel that sets it apart from the tourist-facing spots closer to the waterfront. Closed Mondays.

The Classics — What to Order in a Lisbon Seafood Restaurant

Lisbon's seafood traditions go well beyond grilled fish. Here are the dishes worth knowing before you sit down:

The city's signature seafood dish — a rich, soupy rice slow-cooked in shellfish stock with clams, prawns, and crab. Portions are always generous and always meant for sharing.

Goose barnacles harvested from Atlantic rocks. They look prehistoric and taste intensely of the sea. Eaten simply boiled with sea salt — one of the great Portuguese delicacies.

Clams steamed with garlic, white wine, olive oil, and fresh coriander. The broth is extraordinary — mop it up with crusty bread without apology.

Shellfish slow-cooked in a sealed copper clam-shaped vessel with tomato, garlic, and wine. It arrives at the table still sealed — opening it is half the experience.

Prawns cooked in olive oil, garlic, and chilli. Simple, fast, and one of the most reliable things to order at any Portuguese seafood table.

A full seafood meal at a marisqueira typically costs €25–€50 per person including wine. Premium shellfish like percebes and lobster are priced by weight and can push that higher.
