This is the grand throne hall within Seoul's Gyeongbokgung Palace,.
This magnificent structure is often cited by visitors as a highlight of their palace tour, and for good reason. The sheer scale and intricate details of the traditional Korean architecture are breathtaking, offering a tangible connection to the Joseon Dynasty.
Aim to arrive at Gyeongbokgung when it first opens to avoid the biggest crowds, allowing you to appreciate the grandeur of Geunjeongjeon without too many people.
Remember that Geunjeongjeon is part of the larger palace complex, so factor in at least a couple of hours to explore everything Gyeongbokgung has to offer.

This is the most wide and extremely large area at Gyeongbokgung Palace. We really need to thank God for bringing technology into our world. It is because you will easily get lost in here. There are a lot of tourists in here. It is a heaven to the photographer as well. I stay in this area for almost 45 minutes longer than in other areas. Whoa, I mean I finally can see it with my own eyes. I love this area very much.

Geunjeongjeon is an incredible piece of Korean history. As the main throne hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace, it’s where kings held important ceremonies and met officials. The hall’s elevated position and intricate roof details are stunning, and standing in the massive courtyard gives you a real sense of its significance. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in Korea’s royal past.

This is the throne hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace for the King to meet it's government officials and hold state ceremonies. Geunjeongjeon 勤政殿 means diligent governance, with many kings of the Joseon Dynasty held their coronation ceremonies here, this shows the Kings' aspiration to the throne and the significance of this 2 storey hall to the Korean history.

The Geunjeongmun hall stands on an elevated terrace, the balustrades around the stairs are beautifully carved with some animal statues. Too bad the terrace wasn't really maintained, looks dirty and dated. In front of the terrace is a big courtyard with rank stones indicating the standing positions for government officials.

Just like any other palace, access to the Geunjeongmun hall is not allowed but visitors can view from outside. The hall is an open atrium with the throne in the center.  The throne is very well maintained with splendid colors. While its pillars maybe a bit underwhelming, its intricate roof details are surely stunning.

As this is the main building of the Gyeongbokgung Palace, there's always a crowd here. I also like the corridors surrounding the courtyard provide a beautiful backdrop for photography.

Beautiful and well restored royal palace. A mist visit stop when visiting Seoul. You can rent a hanbok for free entrance and a more authentic experience exploring the palace grounds.
