Location, atmosphere and service is top notch. Honestly there is nothing to point fingers at there. Everything is well thought out and the establishment itself is beautiful. Perfect place for lunch.

I had a soup for a starter where I thought the broth was absolutely wonderful. Super meaty and flavorful with every bite. Then we had the main dish of the restaurant, which was the schnitzel. I choose to have mine with pork fat, however having tasted the others on the table who had it with butter, I didn’t find that big of a difference. With my schnitzel I choose potato salad.

The schnitzel was perfectly cooked, and here I specifically mean the breading. It was thin, crispy and very flavorful. The veal cut between however, was very very thin. The breading to meat ratio was leaning heavily in the direction of the breading which I found quite disappointing. It was almost a paper thin slice. However, flavors were on point. The potato salad was super nice as well.

We finished everything off with a dessert and a really nice cup of espresso. I found the dessert to be delicious, but nothing too overwhelming.

Decent place for schnitzel! They have a nice deal with some toppings for the schnitzel served with potato salad. The schnitzel itself was pretty average. They serve a dessert called ‘Wiener Wäschemädeln’ which was quite an experience with an amazing sauce!

We had the veal schnitzel with preiselbeer and the additional small bowl and the potato salad. To finish it all off we had the alfelstrudel with vanilla sauce.
All in all the food was good. The service was exceptionally fast. The crust on the veal schnitzel was seasoned well but some parts stronger than others which led to an imbalance.
The apfelstrudel had some sort of alcohol - which I liked - but may disturb others.

It's a centrally located Viennese restaurant with Austrian cuisine. Amazing Schnitzel, wine selection and salads. Bone Marrow starter was awesome.
Indoor and outdoor seating.
Good accessibility with wide area inside with ramp entrance and big tables.

We went to this restaurant to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary and loved it.
They organized a very nice table and offered us 2 glasses of sparkling wine 🥂awesome service!
The schnitzels were definitely the best we ever had!
Totally recommend this place to anyone that goes to Vienna.

Meissl & Schadn is a historic restaurant in Vienna, originally established in the mid-17th century as 'Zum blauen Hirsch'. It was rebuilt in the late 19th century in a neo-Gothic style and became renowned for its Rindfleisch dishes. The original building was destroyed during World War II, but the name was revived in 2017 with a new location on Schubertring 10–12.

Das Restaurant Meissl & Schadn Wien blickt auf eine faszinierende historische Reise zurück, die tief in der österreichischen Gastronomietradition verwurzelt ist. Ursprünglich im Jahr 1650 als 'Zum blauen Hirsch' gegründet, hat sich dieses Haus im Laufe der Jahrhunderte zu einem bedeutenden kulturellen und kulinarischen Wahrzeichen Wiens entwickelt.

Geschichte des Restaurant Meissl & Schadn Wien

Dieses Jahr markierte einen wichtigen Meilenstein in der Geschichte des Hauses, das für seine hervorragenden Rindfleischgerichte berühmt wurde.

Im Jahr 1896 wurde das Restaurant im neugotischen Stil neu erbaut, ein Meisterwerk des Architekten Karl Hofmeier, das das elegante Ambiente des Hauses maßgeblich prägte.

Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde das ursprüngliche Gebäude zerstört, was eine dunkle Periode für das Haus bedeutete.

Nach dem Krieg blieb das Haus lange Zeit verlassen, bis es 2017 wiedereröffnet wurde - diesmal unter dem neuen Namen Meissl & Schadn, an einem neuen Standort am Schubertring 10–12, und setzte so die reiche Tradition des Hauses fort.
