Tried the trending Bread ahead bakery at borough market on a recent trip to London. The display was amazing and they had staff showing how they burn the brule on their popular donuts. The line at the market was absolutely crazy but staff were efficient and things were moving quickly. I have to say price was reasonable compared to going to Donutellier. Flavour was nice. Didn’t give it 5 stars as I thought the dough was a bit more bread tasting than I would like. They specialize in bread so no fault really just slightly different than I thought. Fillings were nice. Tasted too similar to me between flavours. Overall loved trying it. It’s a gem in Borough market.

Bread ahead is like the doughnut king at Borough market, you will always find queues at the stall.
It is also a bakery school hence you can expect quality bakery.
Finally gave their doughnuts a try which start at £2 for a plain one where filled ones cost £4.50.
To summarize their doughnuts are well filled with so many indulgent choices like pistachio, Eton mess, honeycomb etc.
I felt that I had to try a plain as well as pistachio and vanilla custard which was a popular choice.
Overall, I enjoyed the plain one the most as it was simple and satisfying, the texture of the doughnut was spot on being soft with a chew and slightly bready.
The filled custard was a bit too rich for me and the pistachio creme lacked pistachio taste.
To summarize I would only recommend the plain and definitely a bargain for £2 if you compare it to other plain ones which cost more than that at kiosks and other cafes.
Revisited again for the garlic bread which just came out and freshly sliced for 6.50.
Loved the chewy and crispy texture garnished with lots of green garlic and cheese.
My non doughnut but dough fix from bread ahead!

Traversed the Borough Market for the first time today, and it was wild! So many food varieties and combinations to choose from.

After enjoying a savory meal, we wrapped things up with donuts from Bread Ahead Bakery—easily the best in London. Tons of variety, and every bite was worth it. I also love that these satisfy your sweet tooth without being too sweet.

We chose: Vanilla, Jam-filled (Raspberry), Salted Caramel Honeycomb, and Pistachio.

I used to love Bread Ahead, but we had a very disappointing experience here during our last visit to London. I had always said their homemade donuts were among the best in the world, but our VERY expensive box of sweet treats ended up in the garbage bin at our hotel later that evening.

Overhyped, the line to get a box of donuts was very long. We stood outside in the shivering cold rain until it was our turn. We opted for 3 donuts, all stuffed with custard or pudding. The flavors were appealing and the items looked tasty. We paid 4.50 pound per donut, which is almost $6 per donut in U.S. dollars. This is an outrageous price regardless, but we were willing to shell out the dough (hee hee) for handmade goodies.

We took the cute little blue box on the Tube and back to our hotel to enjoy with a cup of hot tea. All I can say is, what a waste of calories. Every donut was overcooked, one was so browned that it tasted burned. You can see in my photos how gross the treats looked. All of the treats tasted of very old cooking oil, which is a big no-no in the bakery business. They were disgusting, and I don't say that lightly. The custard inside was tasty, but that was all I enjoyed about my overpriced donuts.

I am heartbroken to say that I can no longer recommend this bakery, especially for their donuts. I also apologize to anyone who went here based on my (former) glowing recommendation.
