Top notch Cantonese food at this local gem. Started off with a delicious Char Siu that was meaty and juicy. The baked crab shell was loaded with fresh crab with a creamy sauce that was delicious. The beef offal pot was  fatty, yet tender and flavorful, I have to resist the temptation to have too much. Other dishes were tasty. Place was busy, so best to plan ahead.

We arrived with a reservation and found the place fully booked. The menu had many tempting options, so we asked the manager for recommendations. We started with the Huai Shan and Goji Berry Soup, which was served in four bowls and was sweet and flavorful, packed with ingredients like yam, goji berries, and various meats. Next was the Chuen Kee BBQ Pork, which was perfectly balanced in fat and meat; even I, a fan of lean cuts, couldn’t resist trying a piece—it melted in my mouth. The Steamed Prawns with Chicken Oil and Udon was large, juicy, and easy to eat, with the prawn meat soaking up the delicious chicken oil sauce. Finally, we had the Bean Sprout with Garlic Soup, which was simple yet fresh. For dessert, the Almond Tea with Egg White was a delightful finish. Overall, the ingredients were fresh, and while some dishes were pricey, they were worth it given the craftsmanship. The service was efficient, though the space felt a bit cramped during peak hours.

Ship Kee is located on the sixth floor of Hopewell Center.
You order by ticking boxes in the menu, write the table number then flag down the staff to send the list.
Our orders weren’t all keyed in. By the time we asked the staff to check, we were already  full.
Recommend the prawn toast. Crispy and well-seasoned. Didn’t get to try their famous char siu though. The staff said there was no more for lunch service.
The spicy lobster that the staff insisted we should order was surprisingly good.

This is kind of like an upscale Chinese restaurant… and my original thought was wanting an old Chinese dinner… yet somehow, we ended up here. lol. Made a booking (must do when you want to eat at some of these swanky ones) for 6pm when they first open.  We originally booked for a party of 4 but my sister in law followed us for dinner and thankfully the restaurant was able to accommodate us for 7.

Service was nice. Always keeping our tea pot full, changing plates, and free red bean soup.

Got seated quickly, waitress explained what they’re famous for - “lycee fragrance roast pork”, crispy chicken (sadly requires 24-48 hr pre order… alas… us tourists wouldn’t know that so sucks for us)… and their very pricey “spicy lobster bites”….  Folks, if the menu says “Market Price”… just know, it will be an outrageous price tag.

We ordered the spicy lobster bites (good but not $200 USD good), sautéed razor clams (pricey but worth it since NY does not really have this available fresh), soy sauce chicken (boring but ok), infamous roast pork (very fatty! It’s HK standard but not what we’re used to), sautéed Chinese kale, and some fancy eggplant stuffed with shrimp, and a sautéed shrimp with egg white & scallops; house special stir fry (this was very good).  Total bill about $477 USD.

Overall, a good dinner but not sure if it’s worth the price tag.  Especially with 4 kids… they actually preferred a more local restaurant with similar eats but not such a swanky atmosphere. Maybe save this for an adult dinner.

A Hong Kong institution, frequented by locals. Great food in a nice environment. It has the usual dim sum selection. The roast meat is a MUST TRY! This place has a nice view of the surrounding street.

Service was quite tentative. Was expecting better.

Would not be back, but did not regret eating here.
