Brought back wonderful memories of Portugal. Sitting at the bar was enjoyable and the servers were very friendly and helpful. The cocktails were amazing and the sweet Portuguese bread was delicious. The squash was perfectly cooked and went well with the cheese. The cabbage and white beans were fresh and amazing. I loved the cake with olive oil and salt and wished that down with a drier Madeira. Definitely worth coming here.

As my husband and I stepped into Baleia, we were immediately transported back to the nostalgic home-cooked meals of his childhood. This modern Portuguese restaurant in the heart of the South End has perfectly captured the essence of the rich culinary traditions that my husband grew up with.

We began our meal with one of my personal favorites - a soft, creamy cheese from the mountain region of Portugal. The salty, tangy notes paired beautifully with the crispy wafers served alongside. Next, we indulged in the sautéed clams, a local favorite that burst with the flavors of the sea. The cod croquettes were a revelation, reminding us both of the comforting dishes his mother used to make.

The service at the bar was unbelievable Mallory was attentive and knowledgeable, she guided us through the extensive wine list and cocktails to find the perfect pairing for our meal. The ambiance of the restaurant tied everything together, with warm lighting, modern decor, and an overall sense of celebration and family.

As we savored every bite, I could see the joy and nostalgia in my husband's eyes. Baleia has managed to capture the essence of those cherished home-cooked meals, celebrating the richness of life and the importance of family. I can't wait to return and create more memorable moments at this hidden gem in South End of Boston.

One of the better overall dining experiences I've had recently in Boston. Most dishes were extremely tasty with unique flavors while staying true to theme. Salad was a perfect palette cleanser and was crisp with great mix of textures, sausage was fantastic and very unique flavors, sardines were ok, a little bland and under salted but still good, mackerel had delicious accompaniments and great flavor, the duck rice was absolutely knock out with perfectly cooked meat. Cocktail was the weakest part of the experience by far, but the wines are unique and very good. Service was over the top, Nate gave us a really fun and insightful lesson on Madeiras and his care for our table set the experience above and beyond. Will absolutely come back.

One of the best restaurants I've been to in Boston. All the dishes and drinks were above expectations, and our server gave us really good suggestions and explanations of the menu items. Dessert items were delicious (the olive oil/caramel cake was probably the only one I didn't like as much since it was very dense). The restaurant is beautiful too. Not overpriced and you definitely get value for money.

The dish presentation was beautiful and I knew the food was Portuguese inspired when coming in.  Overall the food was okay but what I didn’t like was 1/ the restaurant was freezing, I’ve never been to a restaurant colder than this one ever; 2/ the food was sort of Portuguese fusion but nowhere near the authentic dishes that we had in multiple family-owned restaurants in Lisbon when we were there just a couple of years ago.
