A hidden gem and a must-visit in Cape Town.
Anthm is an intimate little bar that completely blew me away. Run by a skilled Japanese bartender, it offers a fusion of Japanese and South African bar snacks — although calling them “snacks” doesn’t do them justice. These are full-on meals, packed with flavor and creativity.

I sat at the bar alone and had one of the best cocktails I’ve ever tasted. Watching the bartender work was an experience in itself — true mixology, with precision, tasting, and care in every pour. It was captivating to see someone so immersed in their craft, and it made the whole experience feel personal and meaningful.

The food? Possibly even better than the cocktails. The potato salad sando is something I wouldn’t normally think to order, but I’m so glad I did — it’s absolutely out of this world. Full of flavor, beautifully presented, and something I’ll be dreaming about until my next visit.

Every detail at Anthm is intentional: the decor, the cozy lighting, the beautiful glassware, and the curated collection of Japanese liquors. The vinyl music playing in the background adds a warm, nostalgic vibe that ties it all together.

Honestly, it’s now one of my favorite spots in Cape Town. Do yourself a favor and try it out. And definitely get a shot of tequila — their little shot glasses are the cutest thing ever.

The cocktail mastery here is something else – every drink I had was perfectly crafted, and I loved every bit of it. As for the food, the pork belly bun is the ideal bar snack – flavorful, satisfying, and just what you want with a great drink in hand.

Our visit was a “happy little accident” and the perfect last evening in Cape Town.

The concept of the bar seems very well thought out and is an experience for all the senses. The ambience, the music, the different cocktail-glasses (with fitting glass coasters!) and of course the taste of the drinks - everything seems harmonious. The cocktails were of the highest quality at a totally reasonable price.

Unfortunately we didn't try the food, but it looked and smelled great.

Such a gem. We had a Boulevardier and Penicillin, drinks were quite strong. Don't go for the Penicillin if you're not a fan of ginger. The food was amazing and the atmosphere as well.
