Had a delicious dinner at this really cute, authentic Italian. They even provide homemade gluten free pasta, and it is so much better than supermarket GF pasta - not chewy at all! Both the owner (from Napoli originally) and the waiter provided really attentive service and kept checking the food was okay (the pasta portions were huge and I couldn’t manage to finish it all!). They even have this lovely touch of calling each table by the booking name rather than the table number, meaning they addressed my dad by his name (since he booked).

This is a hidden gem only a short walk from Long Street where I was staying on business traveling from Scotland. Booking in advance is advised but I was lucky to get squeezed in as a sole diner. The food is out of this world and the people are so friendly. I will definitely be returning next time in Cape Town

4.7/5 superb Italian restaurant with and made pasta. I had the ravioli with napoletana sauce and a gnocchi with pesto (a special request I made for the chef) for R390. Not cheap, but the food was quality and fresh. The gnocchi was in the top 3 best gnocchi I've ever had and I've eaten at Italian restaurants in many parts of the world. The ravioli was also very tasty and fresh. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant!

Absolutely amazing! Best Italian food I’ve eaten outside of Italy. Personable service by the owner and waiter, very friendly and welcoming. The only problem is not having enough space in my stomach to order every item on the menu, but the items we did order (Buratta, Antipasto platter, 4P Bianca pasta, Bolognese, Arancini, Tiramisu, Chocolate salami) were all incredible, authentic, home made with love and attention to detail, a true homage to Italian food heritage. Lovely setting with just a few tables makes it feel very homely and intimate. The selection of wines is great too! Could not recommend this place enough! The owner is going to have a hard time keeping our family away from Osteria Tarantino. Thank you Enrico.

An intimate restaurant situated in the heart of De Waterkant, with fire and purpose, serving the best Italian in Cape Town. It is small and intimate, with the menus on the walls instead of a book, the service full of character, and the food hearty, full of flavour, bold, exciting, and authentic.

Osteria Tarantino is a restaurant that embraces what dining with family is supposed to be. It is about looking up from your phone, enjoying the company of others, eating, laughing, and embracing the spirit of the restaurant.

Sometimes, dining is more than getting your food in under 15 minutes. Sometimes, dining is about the journey.

Book your table in advance. If you are a walk-in and they turn you away, it's not because they are rude or do not want your business—they have a really small number of tables. They are about quality over quantity. Respect that.

Take the time and speak to the server and owner—you might just learn something. They handwrite each receipt—appreciate that. And if they make mistakes, forgive it. This isn't Scala or Col’Cacchio’s—don't expect it.

For the love of simplicity, family, and good food, the way it used to be, the way it should be.
