Had a great time exploring the art museum and studying works by famous artists. I wish I had visited earlier in the day. I arrived around 3:30 PM and the museum closes at 5:30 PM, so I didn’t get as much time as I would’ve liked. Getting the audio guide was definitely worth it, especially since the museum was quite crowded. It was much easier to listen rather than wait my turn to read the descriptions. The gift shop was also lovely and full of cute items — couldn’t resist picking up a few things. Overall, I’d definitely visit again to soak in more of the beautiful paintings, but next time I’ll try to come when it’s less busy.

During my visit, there was a Monet exhibition, which attracted many visitors that day. The exhibition was very well-organized, and I was thrilled to see authentic Monet paintings, which left a lasting impression. Some parts of the exhibition allowed photography, but most areas strictly prohibited it to protect the valuable artwork. The staff was strict about these rules, which I appreciated, as it ensured the paintings were well-preserved. This exhibition offered a rare chance to experience many of Monet’s original works—definitely a must-see!

The exhibition was so incredibly crowded and busy that I found it hard to enjoy it. There were so many people that it was almost impossible to get to a spot where I could view the artworks and read about them myself. I ended up just walking through swiftly before leaving because it was so overwhelming to me- I don’t mind crowds, but I can not handle people pushing past me.

The museum itself has some really lovely pieces by a few famous artists. I think countries usually keep their masterpieces to themselves, but there was still some great pieces here that I felt lucky to see. Info is displayed in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean.

The gift shop was quite nice, especially the books and themed stationery on offer.

An amazing place to witness authentic original high level western arts in Tokyo. I lived in Paris for 6 years and I went to museums, arts galleries countless of times there. Here in Tokyo, this spot is my first museum visited, I love how they put Rodin’s famous works outside and making me feeling like going back to Europe. The museum presentation is very well designed, architectural style is friendly and clean. The souvenir shop is a gem of this place. Highly recommended!

Although there has been long history of mutual cultural admiring between Japan and Western countries the collection of top quality examples from the old world, especially ones from the earlier periods must have become extremely difficult. However it was to our surprise that NMWA was able to develope its collection at a steady and bold pace. The reflextions of different epoches and timelines of the art history were so well represented and being studied with a serious and refreshing approach comparing with its western counterparts. It is now absolutely the bastion of art history standing in the east with no others to compete with.
