I was staying at the Nasa Vegas Hotel and took the Khlong Saen Saep Boat to Panfa Pier from Ramnueng pier.  The fort was right across the bridge.  There is a nice quiet park behind the fort and a really cool temple across the street.  Easy walk to Khaosan road from there passing by Democracy Monument.  After lunch at khaoson, took the river ferry from Phra Athrit Pier to the Ratchawong Pier in Chinatown for drinks at GENZ bar in the China Grand then hit the metro back 7.

A small whitewashed fort that's free to look at and walk around. Not much here, a short span of a wall and a tower, but it gives you an idea of what Thai fortifications must have been like in the past. There is also a small park next to the fort, along the canal, which has just enough trees to provide some much needed shade.  the fort is not that impressive but its on the way to Wat Saket.

A new opening historical space where used to be the pier in the King Mongkut era. This linear graden is behind the historical Makakarn Fort where you can sense of the old days of Bangkok. There are many a-must--to-see places in the walking distance. Must check!
