A very solid traditional French cafe.

They play execrable music on the PA system.

My wife and I engaged in intense religious ritual to do something about the music.

Someone in management turned the volume down.

So we not only got a decent meal but theological proof.

Les Courcelles was where I came to terms with one of the great standards of French cafe cuisine:

The Croque Madame.

(Take off the egg it becomes a Croque Monsieur).

This is a ham and cheese sandwich that is grilled or broiled with a mass of cheese on top.

The cheese totally browns which is the point of the exercise.

The fried egg on top makes it perfect.

It is massively filling.

It is massively comforting.

I suppose there could be superior or inferior Croque Madames.

(I would worry about one at a highway rest stop.)

But basically they are all pretty much the same and they are all good.

Eating Croque Madames makes me happy.

Eating Croque Madames also makes me fat.

It is not something any of us should be doing four times a day.

At Les Courcelles (and a lot of other places) you get french fries with your Croque Madame.

One Croque Madame is already enough to fill you up for the rest of the day.

Adding the french fries makes it enough to fill you up for a day and a half.

I tasted one french fry. (It was good).

That was about all I could manage on the french fries.

I left the Les Courcelles happy as a clam.

(Actually clams don't eat many Croque Madames - so I probably was as happy as something else.)

Other notes:

1) My wife had a Salad Nicoise with served with intentionally half-cooked fresh tuna rather than the anchovies.

That is one very upscale treatment of a Salad Nicoise.

She was quite pleased.

2) The service is excellent. Fast nice and charming.

3) The white wine I had was absolutely superb.

4) The establishment is ancient. It has been serving continuously since the 1880's. I personally am just as happy to eat at a place that opened last week as I am to eat in the oldest cafe in town. But if you are looking for Parisian history, Les Courcelles counts.

5) The tourist count is low. Out on the northwest edge of town, you are in real people land. That affects pricing - since tourists are willing to overpay for swill.

If you are looking for a basic French cafe with a good kitchen, nice help, and a good view - Les Courcelles will do you.

I would happily go back.

If they turn the music up again, bring ear plugs.

Unless you like what you are hearing, in which case, ask the manager for the playlist.

This was the first restaurant we ate at on a recent trip to Paris. The wait staff was amazing. Service was exactly exactly what you would expect in Paris. They recently hired a new chef and the food was fantastic. We were a party of 11 and they were more than accommodating. Ambience was super cute. Not quite sure why the bad reviews but this place was pretty impressive and not crazy expensive.

I ordered the Salmon Club sandwich, when it arrived it smelled ever so slightly off, but I was starving so I ate it anyway. 
I then got INTENSE food poisoning and spent the night being sick...
The staff are lovely and friendly but the restaurant and its potential customers should know that they do not store their food right and therefore they're a danger to all diners. My advice would be to not under any circumstances eat their food.

Stopped in to get out of the rain on the day we arrived to Paris. Smoking on smoking separated by sign out front, not in practice. Sat in the. On smoking section of the patio. 

Cute brasserie like others, disappointed in food. 

15euro for tomato basil ziti. Scallions instead of basil and watery tomato sauce like out of a can with no taste? Ziti was cooked well. College style "cooking" and "making noodles". Stay away and get something else. 

7euro for chococcino, was like Nesquik with cold milk. 

Perhaps my personal lack of French and understanding of the language got me in this situation... 

I hope others have better selections and experience.

Conveniently located right outside the Courcelles Metro stop on line 2.  Great terrace and good service - they also have smoothies - once a rarity but now more and more available in Parisian cafes.

Very nice place. A bit expensive but the food was good. I git the three dessert something with expresso and it was one of the best desserts i have had in Paris. The staffs were friendly.

We ate breakfast here several times during our stay in Paris.  The staff was helpful and attentive, breakfast was excellent and fairly priced.  the kids really enjoyed the hot chocolate and baquette/croissant for breakfast.

Nice location adjacent to the Metro and attractive decor in the style of a traditional brasserie.  Satisfactory menu but unfortunately not well executed or good value, by American standards anyway.  Waiter was polite and professional, but smelled overpoweringly of body odor, which lingered after he left the table.  Needless to say, this tainted the experience.  We really want to like this place as we have a flat nearby, but I don't think we'll be back.

This is perhaps th rudest and most dishonest management I have ever seen.  When I approached the manager about a mistake on the bill he got belligerent.  He charged both my friend and I believing that we will not discover same. Had it been that I was not there with my family I certainly believe I would have addressed the matter differently.
