This little gem, on the very busy Stoke Newington Road, is an oasis of charm, simple but expertly crafted breakfasts, and great people watching.
 
The Food:
Simple but really delicious. I don't eat bread, so breakfasts in London are often a real trial for me. However, here I was able to get perfectly scrambled eggs (I am an absolute scrambled egg snob, so this is high praise indeed). The scrambled eggs were creamy buttery valleys of golden perfection topped with a lovely rosette of smoked salmon and a chive garnish. For me, breakfast can't get better than simple dishes made with skill and real know how. This was simply the best breakfast I had in London, and one of the best I've had in years since my favorite egg place in NY closed down. I was staying in a wholly unfamiliar part of London (Dalston) at an AirBNB and having L'Atelier a couple doors down, was a lifesaver. In fact, the eggs with smoked salmon on top was so good (though not a huge portion) that on my last day there I ordered a second helping.  
As for their coffee, it is Truly french and truly delicious. It is bold and very much made to order (only negative they don't offer decaf, so if you are sensitive like me, you have to stop at just one delicious cup). Looking around at the other tables made me want to try all of their coffee variations, as each looked more yummy than the next. But alas my limited caffeine tolerance, time and money did not allow for further exploration. However, the coffee I did have was truly good.
 
The Staff:
As the name would suggest, the staff are Mostly French, and though each one looks more super cool and chic than the next, they could not be more accommodating, helpful, friendly and charming. They remember their customers (I came in months after a previous trip & was met with a "welcome back") and are always willing to meet special requests. They are happy to stop for a chat, or let you just do your morning thing. This alone would make it the perfect spot to start ones day in my book, as I neither felt rushed nor ignored. How many restaurants can you say that about?

Overall:
I love this little gem (ya think???). Yes, it can get crowded on the weekends with the brunch crowd, but it is worth the few minutes wait so you can get comfortable at one of their rustic wood tables and settle in for a simply perfect breakfast. The one thing I would change...I would love for their bathroom to have paper towels and better organization (like a real toilet paper holder), but really that's the only negative I can say about my experience there, and it is not enough of a minus for me to lower their rating in the least, especially when the food and service are so warm, welcoming and perfect.

Even if you are not in the area, I would recommend you take a field trip to this funky and less touristy up and coming part of town to experience the best scrambled eggs in London. Hang out at one of their sidewalk tables and watch a wholly distinct London neighborhood unfold before you, while you enjoy a great cup of coffee and some utterly divine food.

Walking past I could see this was a very chilled out hipster-esque cafe. On entering I could see it was a great place for coffee with friends.

Tempted by a very pretty orange wedge salad that wafted by, I decided to pop in for a very quick lunch.

Ordering wasn't as easy as I'd hoped. The cafe was pretty quiet but I still waited several minutes for a menu before just getting up and asking for one myself (as another lady had to also). You also have order from the counter it seems but neither signs not staff told me this.

I ordered a hot croissant with scrambled eggs, bacon and goats cheese (bacon on the side). This was lovely and almost worth having to virtually serve myself. For me the food was four star, service two, atmosphere three.

Unfortunately the hard core hipster vibe here  means you either fit in or you don't. 

Being a "cutester" I don't.

Friendly and nice looking cafe with wide open windows. It is laptop friendly with several socks around but can get quite busy and noisy during brunch times. Have been here a few times and they have a good food and drinks selection. Good coffee too although cup is a bit too small.

Great café and restaurant. They have delicious salads and open faced sandwiches. Great place to go get some work done, or meet someone for coffee or a simple lunch. The people are very nice and friendly. I wish I lived close by so I could become a regular.

Oh wow, what a great cafe! Since I discovered this place, it is my place of choice for my weekend breakfasts. The omelettes and the scrambled egg and salmon plates are the best. And for £6.50 it is very good value for money compared to what you get in other places in the area. The coffee, lemonade and the OJ are very decent too.
My friend visiting from Wigan was not impressed that they did not have ketchup though.

Love the decor and atmosphere at L'Atelier. Had the french toast for Brunch today which was divine, coffee is great as was freshly prepared mixed juice. Would highly recommend the cafe and not overly pricey.

What a disappointment this place was! It's all very well having lots of little decor touches, and lovely little things in jars and bottles for people to look at, but if the staff are rude and make you feel unwelcome and an inconvenience then what is the point!

I received rather rude exchange upon my arrival for brunch with a friend. I ordered an omelette which would have been lovely had it not had RAW EGG swimming around in the middle. I understand 'baveuse' but this was utterly inedible. When I took it back - politely - I was met with sneers implying that I didnt understand how an omelette should be cooked, and then one of them said 'just stick it in the microwave, sod it'.

Won't be back!

Great coffee and lovely atmosphere. Decided to return for an evening meal whilst a friend arrived from out of town. Very disappointed! Not sure if they were under staff. Though not even an acknowledgement from staff when we walked in and had a seat. My friend and I sat for I'd say a good 10 minutes. While one of its staff members was seating those that had come later and already gave  them menus and water to share. Needless not to mention that he never even looked up while he was attending the floor. At the same time another member of staff was having a long drown out conversation with a couple of patrons. We decided to give them at least a few more minutes and of course nothing. The Gentlemen that was having the conversation slowly moved back behind the register . Passing us and not even looking over. Then decided to have another giggle with some one from another table next to  us what must have been on her iPhone. SERIOUSLY???

I'm glad to tick this one off the list.

Overpriced and slow service. The place is fine but I just couldn't believe how terrible the service was. One of the staff straight up ignored my friend when he tried to order, and told him to wait at the table for someone to come take our order. At that point we had been there for a solid half an hour or so and nobody had come to even ask if we wanted drinks or food. He came about ten minutes after that interaction, took our order, and we ate with the dirty dishes from the previous guests still on the table. No apologies for the delay, only rude attitudes.

Ok I like the food ( normally when I have the food served to me). We just got there at 11am by then 12 I was still waiting for my scramble eggs ( any customer who came after us had already their food and were leaving). I asked the guy where is our food, he smiles , goes , does not come back. After 5 min I tell him we are leaving and the guy still makes me pay 2 orange juices (£5.60!) without saying saying sorry, without looking at me. His only words were : "are you sure?"
