Walking down Baker Street was not producing any inspiration for somewhere nice to eat, it was all Subway, Nando's, Macdonalds and burger bars. Then I spotted a little chalkboard on the corner promising family-run Italian food just 20 metres away. A quick check on Yelp and a bunch of five-star reviews sealed the deal. Sadly however, my experience did not match up to the hype. 

The main 'special' of the day was whole lobster with linguine - now as you know, I'm a bit partial to a bit of lobster. However, the lobster that we get in the UK is but a very pale shadow of the New England lobster experience. This particular crustacean could hardly even pass muster as a crayfish in my book. The half-shell is displayed enticingly at the side of the plate but is sadly empty; and although the pasta and sauce was tasty enough, the "lobster" chunks were decidedly on the chewy side and rather disappointing. The garlic bread that I ordered as a side was hard and crispy  - I might even have said verging on the stale, although I think it was just lacking in the garlic butter department.

What saved the day, and a couple of stars on this review, was the dessert of blueberry and vodka sorbet, which was absolutely sensational!

Overall, a rather expensive and decidedly average Italian. Maybe I'd caught them on a bad night, but I'm not inclined to return here; there are plenty of other options.

Great local Italian restaurant. 

1. You have a wide choice of pastas : with lobster, arrabbiata,  special with white truffle you name it.
2. Staff is relaxed, ultra pro and very nice.
3. Generosity : you feel genuinely welcomed by someone who lives in the area and knows its customers
So many places pretend to be italian...
4. You have a "back room" if you are looking for more air (though you can ask for heating) and a tv that is quite helpful to watch games

Oh how excellent my lunch just was at this tiny little italian place just off Baker Street. I had the Gamberoni in a chilli garlic sauce with risotto - BOMB.COM. To say the least! I'm not as excited about the starters as I am about the main course, I guess you can't have it all...for 4 stars. We got olives and bread to start off, which was nice and the service was very much on top and friendly too.

Lured by the signboard after working nearby on a Saturday evening and needing some comfort food (read carbs), I decided to give this place a try. 

Their little signboard says that they serve the best calamari in London. I'm a sucker for any place that claims they the "best". 
This time I was rewarded for my naivety. 

The restaurant is quite cosy and would be quite nice for a romantic date before a show. 

I ordered the calamari and the linguine frutti di mare. Both were spot on. 
Calamari comes deep fried in a light batter, blow could taste it was fresh and cooked well. Seasoned gently enough to my overpower the delicate calamari flavour. 
The pasta was also delicious.  Nice variety of seafood included, and a decent amount as well. Pasta was also cooked just the way I like it. I hesitate to say al dente as, I'm not a fan of al dente. 

Complimentary bread and olives are provided as well as breadsticks. Win. 

Very enjoyable experience and very enjoyable food.  What a gem of a place.  Will be back.

Came here for dinner recently and had a nice meal with family. The three of us ordered spaghetti bolognese, spaghetti pesto, seafood linguini, zucchini fritto, sautéed spinach. We did not have a reservation, and so were told that the front area was full, but we could dine in the enclosed patio area. That area had less of a nice ambiance, but it's a fine compromise for not having come with a reservation. You are, however, next to the restrooms, and only a thin fabric separates you from the kitchen. Our meal was still tasty and filling, and service was friendly overall. My only small issue was that without any word we were given breadsticks and olives, which we assumed were the norm for every table. It wasn't until we received the bill that we realized there was a £3 charge added on, and were then told that this was "notated in the menu which you could decline if you didn't want them". When you set something down on the table without consulting us, it is generally thought that we can assume this is complimentary. Even when noted in the bottom of the menu, I couldn't help but feel that this wasn't entirely a well-meaning move.

This place seems to be a well-kept secret in an area where there is a dearth of fine(ish) dining.  When I arrived to meet my friend for an early lunch at noon it was deserted, which worried me, but then it filled up super-fast.  I even bumped into an old uni friend who was v impressed with me for being there - apparently this is the best Italian in london, according to locals like him!
I loved my gnocchi in pesto - v flavourful and a portion too large to finish and my lunching companion seemed to appreciate his chicken. Lovely to have bread to start (though it could have been fresher).
I didn't have dessert that day but there was an intriguing tequila blueberry sorbet on the specials... Would totally return! :)  x

This place has the best risotto I have ever, ever had.

The atmosphere is very down to earth, very casual. This is my favorite place to have a soothing, quiet dinner my first night in town to ease my jetlagged soul. Enjoy!

I do not give out stars easily my friends, so take these four stars to heart. This is one of those "blink and you might miss it places" across from a much "fancier" chain Italian restaurants. My bf and I were looking for good Italian, and the reviews in the window caught our eye. Figuring we could do the chain anytime we took a chance on Casa Becci, and boy and I glad we did. It's food your Italian grandmother would make, and I mean that in the best way possible. 

It's a small family place, but the servers were extremely friendly and the service was prompt. We started with the fried calamari which was piping hot, light and crispy. A mix of rings and tentacles(Not that chewy, greasy mess you so often get).  My bf went with a specials both nights-rigatoni and sausage one night and a chicken and garlic concoction the next and BOTH were delicious. The chicken was moist, the vegetables were crisp, and every last crumb was devoured. 

I had the tortelli napoli both nights, and it was good. Well seasoned sauce, a tad spicy, utterly delicious. 

Prices are beyond reasonable (especially for London) and the food was top notch. When in London, do as the Romans would do, and try Casa Becci.

Recommended by Thassilo for our farewell dinner - Classy little Italian joint, perfect for a date or if you are looking for something authentic in the area. Great wine, friendly staff and a menu that tastes like the real deal.
