I've always enjoyed seeing Nelson's Column, the landmark centrepiece at Trafalgar Square. Built in the 1840s, the column is 51 metres tall and topped with a statue of General Nelson for whom the monument is named and dedicated for his victory over French forces at the Battle of Trafalgar (1805).

The column base includes detailed bas-reliefs and is guarded by four bronze lions which were added in 1869. There are two decorative fountain pools just to the north of Nelson's Column and four large plinths with monuments flanking the Column. Standing to the south of Nelson's Column, you can take really nice pictures of Trafalgar Square with the column, especially on good weather days.

Wandered through here in May and was so stunned by how tall Nelson's column is, that I completely spaced and missed London's smallest police station lol.

Linger a while, soak up all the history, visit the gallery, make the time to saunter leisurely through the square (weather permitting), and enjoy 🙂
