Really cool location on the river next to the Millennium Bridge. Service was great. It was someone in our party's birthday and they offered complimentary prosecco on the house! They also greeted her with a Happy Birthday when we were seated.
We tried a few dishes and everything was good but nothing amazing. What was amazing though was the views of St. Paul's cathedral at night after dinner!

Advertised as having a riverside view and being a fine dining establishment, Northbank actually falls short of this impression. The view of the river is obscured as in reality the restaurant front is far from the river edge and the restaurant is not elevated so you only see the side of the pedestrian path. The seating arrangement seems tightly packed as if in an effort to fit more guests in despite the restaurant being half empty during my weekday dinner visit. The staff are also dressed neatly and are cordial but actually seem to lack answers to questions without seeking a second opinion and our table was so long that plates need to be passed on to the end of the table for retrieval. Therefore in terms of the premises itself the setting seems a bit pretentious as it claims more than its worth and could do with some improvement.

The hot teas were read out upon asking when a menu should have been presented. Then the strainer for the tea leaves did not fit the cup and the tea I had was probably the most bitter I've ever tasted. 

Not a good start, however, now on to the food, which thankfully was significantly better than everything supplementary to it. The bread rolls were suitably warm, crusty and nicely uniform in shape, the spinach infused soup-like amuse bouche was delicately tasty, the crab linguini whilst lacking in actual pieces of crab was well doused in crab flavour, and the duck was tender and pleasant to taste. However, I would not recommend the baked mead and vanilla custard with honey and ginger syrup dessert as some bites of this were so sharp it was hard to swallow, which I suppose is the influence of the ginger.

In conclusion, Northbank seems to offer some highs and some lows, with almost little in-between; hence it was quite an odd combination, less than I was expecting but not entirely miserable.

Took a little bit of working out on my part as to how to get here. One arrived, was immediately greeted. Coat taken and polite conversation with lovely Portuguese waiter.  

Met my friend at the bar for a table booking I was now half hour late for.  Allowed me to take my time to relax over my drink. Did not rush us in any way. 

Once ready, was shown to our table which as a lovely little booth where we were able to easily have a relaxed private catch up. 

Waiters were polite and gave a great service  even making my meal special by adding personalised dessert for me . 

The sea bass was well done and tasty.  Portion sizes just right enabling you to eat 3 courses without being stuffed. 

Good dessert. I had sticky toffee pudding and a chocolate brownie!!!  Both yummy and well made. Good pusds 

We were one of the last to leave. Waiting staff happily started arranging the restaurant for the next day around us and again didn't rush us to leave or move us on to the bar which was still serving. 

All in all, a lovely evening out. Oh and Thursdays are ladies night with champagne offerings.

Despite a somewhat office-like exterior, this is a wonderful riverside gem that deserves to be better known both for its location and its food. Enter the bar and you sense the relaxed and friendly professionalism of the staff, complemented by the owner's bulldog, Veronica, snoozing on a leather banquette in the sun.


 The food is simple and beautifully prepared. I had the best tomato and lentil soup I have even eaten, followed by a superb asparagus risotto, and we shared an absolutely delicious fig tatin. I didn't see the bill, but the expression on my host's face remained genial.


 The towpath on this side of the river is far less crowded with tourists than the south bank and in summer, Northbank's unbrella-shaded terrace will be a prime and peaceful spot.


 A short walk along the towpath brings you to the Millennium Bridge and an easy stroll to the Tate Modern or St Paul's. I think I'm going to need to catch up on culture far more regularly with Northbank as my base.

It's a pretty decent place.  Menu is not nearly as large as all the posts. Menu is seasonal with about 10 items to select from.

Service is very poor though. If you are not a native of London expect crap service. Typically you will wait extra long for service or you will get hurried to leave the place.  We waited nearly 25 min to order desert... 

Overall it's ok, but for a high end restaurant the value isn't there especially when you get poor service. Probably avoid the place

This is a fantastic place. Loved my experience there, my wallet did not however. Started having drinks on the outdoor terrace which is the best terrace I have enjoyed in London. It is also nestled in a very quiet area of the walkway along the river so it's not busy and loud out there. Mostly financial types were there after work when we stopped by before dinner but the nice weather combined with delicious cocktails made us quite a few friends. And VERONICA! The owner has a lovely (and sassy) bulldog named Veronica. She has free reign of the place, even hopped upon the bench and took a nap in the corner next to a lady. She sauntered over when we had chips looking for a snack so we gave her some love. 

We then moved to dinner inside, which had just as lovely views. The service was never bad. The waitress never got anything wrong, it was just very slow, so we ordered with that in mind. Not a big deal, we were in no hurry. The appetizers were delicious, as were the mains, but the waiter warned us about something quite odd. The main dishes came with no garnish, nothing in addition to anything. We would have to order sides. I ordered a ribeye and while sparse, it was the best ribeye I have had in the UK yet. 

The only negatives are the slow service, the weird single item mains and the price. But overall I loved it there. 
But for Veronica and the terrace, I would definitely go back again.

If you are anything like me, (a slightly scruffy denizen of SE London) you may well be intimidated by the starched tablecloths, the smart waiters and subdued tables of business folk. 

Fortunately, the courteous staff overlooked my trainers and cycling gear, and were attentive and friendly throughout our meal. 

As someone else has mentioned, the atmosphere was a little quiet and lacking in liveliness. The food, however, was delicious if a little stingy on the carbs. 

We all opted for the trout with crab gnocci. This comprised a big portion of meltingly tender fish with a crispy skin sat on watercress.

I could count the number of tiny gnocci on one hand, which is a shame because they were lovely. Anyone with even a slither of an appetite should probably order a side of chips or potatoes. 

Or you could order the cheese board for dessert, as I did. Top marks for the four varied cheeses, mini toast, chutney, biscuits and crackers, apple slices and grapes. 

The prices are high, and as I used a taste card it worked out at excellent value. If you don't mind the poshness, I'd thoroughly recommend this place. 

And I imagine it's even better sitting outside on a sunny day by the Thames.

Great location on - unsurprisingly by name ! - the North Bank of the River Thames near St Paul's Cathedral, and adjacent to Millennium (aka "Wobbly") Bridge. 

Replacing the former "Just The Bridge", which started off well but declined with time, both food and service are now back to par, and the prices are reasonable given its location.

Located in a great location on the river front, just by Millennium Bridge, Northbank Restaurant is a very classy and excellent decor interior, with very polite and friendly staff. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxed, helped by the clean layout and nice modern feel.

The food however, wasn't anything particularly special. We felt the portions were small for what was a premium price, and wasn't quite as flavoursome as we would have liked. I had the lamb dish, and was very disappointed that it came out overcooked!

All in all, a lovely restaurant in a great location, but shame the food wasn't up to scratch!

Excellent restaurant recommended to us by a British local, right on the riverside next to St Paul's Cathedral. It's usually quiet and not too loud, the service is excellent. We ordered the large seafood platter (fruit de mar?), which turned out to be a great choice since the lobster, crab and fish were all so fresh. Our server warned us the dish was extra large, it turned out to be decent sized but not extra large using my fat ass American standards.
