Myself and a friend won a prize for a three course meal here and it was absolutely delicious! The staff were very knowledgeable and helped us pair a bottle of wine with our meals as well as helped me to decide the best vegetarian options for me. I had a sweet potatoes soup for a starter which was super refreshing and flavourful. I had the veggie burger for main, it wasn't my favourite but I had some mushrooms as a side that when added made it delicious. Somehow after all this I managed to fit in cream broule for dessert. We both rolled out of there!

Food is ok (nothing spectacular), waitstaff is kind and polite. However, service and kitchen are very slow and unorganized, waiters are wondering and running around cluelessly, no waiter is assigned to your table. Quite expensive (a burger, beer, and salad are 25 GBP ). No tipping seems to be in place that may explain it. 
The place was about 25-30% full and it took me 90 minutes from start to finish. 
     

Avoid if you want to get a normal speed meal.

Great place! Restaurant is part of the hotel right next to the meat market. Prices are a bit upscale but Came here on an american bbq ribs deal and must say extremely happy about it. Obviously this is not a place for ribs, but if you are looking for great fancy food. This is your choice! Great for a first date!

We headed here for a post Christmas festive brunch and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Starters were a spiced lentil soup or limitless hors d'ouvres from the buffet, washed down with a complimentary glass of prosecco. For our mains we had roast dinners, both of which were good but the beef wins on the strength of the Yorkshire pudding alone! With our meals we had a very nice bottle of Tempranillo-Merlot which was the perfect match for our dinners - fruity enough to pair with poultry, robust enough to enough with beef. Final course was a gooey, super sweet, delicious sticky toffee pudding with pecans and vanilla ice cream - a wonderful finish to a treat of a meal. I'd highly recommend Chez Mal for a lovely meal out.
