When we arrived, a very good Polka band was playing. But it all went downhill after that. The absolute worst hard rock band played bizarre noise and screeched from the stage. Looked like teenage boys who wished they were Led Zeppelin. Awful embarrassing noise. This is a Polish Festival, stick with Polish music!! The shuttle service was excellent however. People in my group said the food was ok, but I refused to pay the exorbitant prices. All in all, a disappointing experience. I won't return. The $15 entrance fee was ridiculous too. $2 would be about right.

I was injured and didn't get a chance to go. I lived vicariously, two friends of mine that did. Good friends of mine sent me a lot of pictures through Facebook. It looked like all the other years that I've been through taste of Polonia. Have a great day.

The last time we attended this neighborhood festival was eons ago, when it was smaller and relatively inexpensive. This year, having received free admission tickets from a friend (valid only for Friday evening), we decided to revisit. This event provides little or no accommodation for the elderly and handicapped. We wouldn't have gone at all except that a friend offered us free tickets. General admission is $15 across the board ($45 for a 4-day pass), with no Senior discount. The shuttle between the remote parking lot and the event has a very high first step and my Missus had a hard time with boarding and alighting. And, once we got our food, we found absolutely nowhere to sit. Only standup tables are provided. We anticipated enjoying some traditional Polish music; polkas or whatever. Ha! All we heard was over-amplified hard rock. One band was banging out music of the Rolling Stones (Mick Jagger is about as Polish as Yoko Ono). The entertainment stages are close enough together that the bands were drowning each other out, making conversation difficult. We explored a row of vendors' booths: Mostly mobile phone, financial and travel services, cheesy jewelry and accessories, and T-shirts. Blah. My shopaholic Missus found nothing to buy. Well, that leaves food and drink. If you leave a Polish festival hungry or thirsty, there's no one to blame but yourself. We were starving, and boy, did we stoke up. My Missus devoured a Polish combination plate heaped with stuffed cabbage, potato pancake, Polish sausage, 3 pierogi, and sauerkraut. I tackled a fat, garlicky Polish sausage that must've measured at least a foot long, after which I managed to bolt down a humongous freshly fried potato pancake. We had no room left for paczkis. All told, we spent $54 on food and drink, which is around what we spend on a typical restaurant meal. In truth, we've had better Polish food at restaurants, but we were satisfied. Afterwards we really needed to sit down and cool off, so we waddled into Copernicus Center. The auditorium, formerly the Gateway Theater (opened in 1930), retains its movie palace splendor. Seeing this was a treat! The free admission tickets, the theater, the food, and the camaraderie - strangers chatting with each other - are what made our visit to Taste of Polonia worthwhile.

Taste of Polonia is a pretty chill experience. Give me beer and music, and I'm a happy camper at fests. I've come here the past few years because we always see a band called Beggars Banquet who plays here... they are a Rolling Stones tribute band who is very good! The thing that gets annoying about this fest is that you literally pay for everything. It's $5 just to walk into the event (unless you come after 5pm, then it is $10 per person) and quite honestly, if you come when you need to pay $10, it's not worth it. The food is pretty good here, but all the tents are pretty expensive, too, for pretty small portions depending in what you order. Then, beer is $7 which is pretty crazy for a little fest... sure they are taller cans, but damn. When you come, bring cash. Drink tickets are cash only, but there is an ATM in the fest just in case. This year (2018), I came today on Labor Day and it seems that every year I come, it pours. Today was awful weather, and we watched our band play 4 songs and then it started lightning so they told everyone to either go into the Copernicus Center or under a tent... well it got VERY bad, and so they later had everyone go into the Center because the lightning became so bad, the lights went out and they were trying to deal with all of the flooding outside by the tents. Thankfully, the people working the fest were working their butts off and were super helpful in such a stressful situation. They were playing a WTTW tv show in the theater so that people could relax in a chill atmosphere as the horrible storm passed. They began selling beer and soda inside the Center, and there was a mini casino inside, too. As the rain passed, they allowed people outside, but the puddles and floods were awful. Volunteers and workers tried to take care of the rain as fast as possible, but they took down all of the stage speakers because they didn't want to ruin them, so I'm not sure if they continued with the entertainment of bands. As we were leaving, there was a HUGE long line of people waiting to get in, despite the rain and the floods that came previously, so that says a lot about the event and the people who come. Beer and fun triumph all!

Going to this festival every Labor Day weekend has become a tradition for us. Sometimes it is not easy deciding what polish food you want to get but everything here is perfect for sharing. If you go away hungry you did something wrong. Some Of the vendors also have a great condiment selection to add on to your plate including soft breads and pickles. This year I was all about the stuffed cabbage. There is polish beer (which you can add a berry syrup too) wine and always a craft beer tent. Prefer liquor? You can find a full bar (and casino) in the Copernicus Center. There are 2 outside stages and the center has music, dancers and other culture. Grab a seat in the Copernicus Center to not only cool down if it's hot but also to gaze at the beauty of the building and get some culture too. They have bounce houses for the kids and you pay a flat fee for a half day wristband. We like to go early before there are crowds and it is easily accessible by train, bus and metra. Many are in costume and there is great people watching too!

Really nice event to go to at the end of the summer. Second time going to it. Has music and food (the food is usually better). Authentic polish dishes which are quite tasty. There's also stalls selling items and a mini carnival game area. They also have drinks, mostly beer though. When you go you do have to have to exchange cash for tickets, because that's all they accept. Food can be expensive but if you check everything out first before buying the first thing you see, you'll get good bang for your buck.

In prior years this festival has fallen on cool and dreary weekends, but not this year. The nice weather brings out the crowds because it was crowded mid-afternoon. We took advantage of the free parking and shuttle from the Irish Heritage Center (and also a convenient place for a night cap afterwards). The festival is about the food and drink. The usual vendors such as Kasia's were there. But also some new places, sampled some tripe from To Tu Cafe and also some Armenian food from Ararat, from which I recommend the burek (a Balkan empanada) and pork shish-kebob. A lot of vendors had szaszłyk (shosh-wick) or shish kebab which shows the influence of the invading mongol hordes on eastern European cuisine. Plus it just makes for good street food. They have multiple stages and usually with a mix of entertainment. This festival is cover band heaven. Some of the better ones appear in the evening. The beers were 16 ouncers from a variety of Polish breweries. My only complaint is that they didn't have enough recycling bins on the grounds for the cans and plastic bottles.

We LOVE Taste of Polonia. Not only is my husband Polish, but I am part Polish as well. We love the bands and they are all GREAT! I can see why they charge $5 TO GET IN FOR THE BANDS. The food is delicious. We go almost everyday that it is open. Look forward to another fine fest.

Weather was beautiful! Food was very overpriced,$14 for a polish plate. $7 beers. Nowhere to sit. They have tall tables that you stand at to eat. I challenge you to cut the sausage with the plastic knife they provide you. $5 to get in is ridiculous. Would we return? NO!!!!!
