[Late Review]

Visited in Feb 2024

Metiz has made a name for itself over the last few years by consistently featuring in the Asia Top 50/100 list. The meal experience was a 8-course tasting menu with dishes which give you a unique flavour of Filipino cuisine. I’d say that each course represents a sort of “adventure” based on signature taste profiles of Filipino food culture.

For drinks, I tried a few cocktails (Alappa, Pakwan Milk Punch, and Tadhana)and they were fantastic. I’d definitely recommend cocktail lovers to try the Pakwan Milk Punch. There is also a wine menu if you’re more inclined towards trying that.

Service was good (as would be expected of such a restaurant). The restaurant was kind enough to cater to my allergies by replacing a few ingredients in a couple of courses.

All in all, I’d definitely recommend a visit to Metiz if you’re in Manila.

Super excited that I had the opportunity to try this place out during my short stay in Manila. A very intimate dining experience where you can see chefs across the room preparing your food. As a foreigner, I can't really comment on how unique/pushing the boundaries the food is but they surely are delicious. Special appreciation to the hostess and sous chef for giving me a tour of their kitchen. Definitely will come back again next time I'm in Manila.

We are a sucker for anything 'x Best' so Metiz was definitely in our radar to check out since they were a part of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants.  Overall, happy with the 8-course menu and the price point (Php4,850/person).  Would definitely recommend to those who'd want to experience Filipino fine dining.

Since we ate at Toyo Eatery last year when we visited home and both are in Asia's 50 Best, it was inevitable we'd compare both.
* in terms of overall taste, we enjoyed the food at Metiz slightly better.  I emphasize 'slightly' since it wasn't significantly better.
* Toyo Eatery seemed more 'value for the money' since they had more courses and extras in between meals when the price for both I think was either the same or not significantly higher than the other
* we liked how Toyo Eatery explained where almost each and every ingredient came from, i.e.  the salt was from x, the rice from y and so on.  Metiz did some of that but not consistently in all dishes and just for maybe one or two ingredients in the dish.
* Toyo Eatery had slightly better service since Metiz did not clean up our table like a used paper towel was still there until the end of the meal and hey I know this sounds nitpicky but you charge those prices and want to be called fine dining, well, these things are basic
* the meal ended with Toyo Eatery sending us home with a house made pastry while Metiz gave us a shot of flavored lambanog which we did like and...  Choc-Nut.  I think if they ended with just the lambanog, it would be somewhat at par with Toyo's house made pastry but the addition of Choc-Nut kinda put me off.  Choc-Nut is something I can easily buy anywhere and it's off the shelf.  Again, you want to be fine dining, I expected you doing your own version of Choc-Nut.

If you can do so, definitely try both Metiz and Toyo but if you had to choose one or you're deciding which one to eat at first, I recommend doing Toyo Eatery.

The ambiance is generally described as modern and welcoming, suitable for both casual and special dining experiences.

Loved the way they frequently use fermentation techniques which is common in Filipino dishes.  The restaurant also looks like a cross between your Lola's kitchen and a mad  scientist's lab which adds more character to the restaurant.

Given its ranking among the top 50 Asian restaurants, my expectations may have been overly ambitious. I wanted to be a special day to spend here before leaving Manila and heard good things about it. However, the dishes, regarding both their variety and flavor, proved to be merely adequate, not living up to the high cost (9000php for two). Certainly, one can definitely find better value at this price point.

Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that the overall service was commendable and justified the service charge.
