Quite an experience to visit this lovely building, the second largest synagogue in the world. It looks like a church for a reason but I'll let you visit and find that out. The monuments to the Hungarian Jews killed in 1945 to homegrown Nazis are very moving. Take the free tour, they start every half hour.

Really popular site.  Tour guides in many languages.  Friendly. Helpful. Not as learned in many history and things that they say but that is really less important.   Enjoy.  It is worth the visit.  Note. This is not a reform synagogue. It was a conservative neolog that was part of the orthodox society.

Great Synagogue is exactly that as it is indeed  a large edifice. The exterior is clearly inspired by middle eastern architecture, but
it isn't awe inspiring in any way. The lines and detail are fairly pedestrian, but it's the indoor portion that you'll want to see. Access is permitted with a ticked, which is pretty expensive for Budapest, and the lines can get long as it is a regular stop for many tours.

I didn't go inside because the ticket seemed too expensive to me, although not that bad, 25 euros. Still one of the most significant visits you can make in Hungary. As a Jew, I am happy to discover beautiful synagogue buildings with style and not just characterless buildings like almost all synagogues in Israel

Impressive! Our guide was simply excellent, my teenagers weren’t enthusiastic about the visit at the beginning and after completely changed their mind and loved it. Visits are really well organised. Building is beautiful and its history is so moving. A must while being in Budapest.
