Very interesting museum with 3 permanent exhibitions. I liked 2 and 3 the most. 2 - tells about seasons of the year in Korea, what people wore, ate and did, the way they lived. 3 - tells about periods of life of Korean people and some traditions. It takes about an hour to explore. Imho worth it. Free entrance.

There are outdoor displays of buildings showing what businesses looked like  in the mid to late 20th century in South Korea. There was a teahouse, barber shop, tailor, photography shop, salon and others. You can sit at a simulated typical backdrop on a fancy couch to  take a "photo" of yourself at the photography shop. It's automated and it prints out a fuzzy black and white picture of yourself. Just click on the button that says "receipt".

I loved this area.

Inside the museum, there are 3 exhibition areas. I particularly enjoyed the 2nd exhibition hall where the mixture of audio visuals, projections and samples of tools and other items used in the daily family or work life were on display. It showed life through the seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter. My favourite one was a video showing how freshly harvested cotton is turned into thread and then woven into fabric.

I found the glass fly trap fascinating too. Why don't we use this eco friendly method today? No chemicals and no electricity required.

Located at 37 Samcheong-ro, Jongco District, Seoul, South Korea 🇰🇷.
This is a fantastic museum located in the grounds of Gyeongbokgung Palace. It’s a cultural institution dedicated to research, exhibition and preservation of the culture of everyday life of the Korean people. The museum has three permanent exhibition galleries that present traditional culture and folklore in Korea, two special exhibition galleries that present temporary special exhibitions and folklore of countries around the world and a exhibition space dedicated to the collection of donated artifacts. There’s also an outdoor exhibition space where scenes of everyday life of the Korean people from different periods of history are shown. I really loved going around, looking at the display of artifacts shown in the museum. It draws you into the life of rural Korea. It’s FREE admission for everyone which is great. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat. Thumbs Up!!! 👍👍👍

NO ENTRANCE FEE! this is at the same area as the palace. The museum is inside the pagoda. And the garden is full of things. You can also see houses from different era. There is also a spot where there is a recreation of different decades of a small town. The museum inside is interesting too. There are 4 galleries with different theme. There is seasons, korean life, and pop culture

Free for everyone, it was my second visit. I couldn't do justice to this place on Sunday after having spent two hours at the palace next to it, so I returned on Monday. What a difference, no crowds, going before 10.00 am I almost had the place to myself.
There are three permanent exhibitions showcasing Korean life through; 1) everyday objects that are useful in performing work or have other significance. 2) A seasonal tour showing how Koreans have adapted their lives to fit the seasonal cycle and 3) Korean life passages cherishing the endless lifecycle  through centuries  from youth to old age. There is also a special exhibition which really hooked my interest. It might sound morbid that it's about death, but it beautifully illustrates the belief systems around what happens on passing this life. The mythical guards who transport to the afterlife, the various characters that provide  you with entertainment on that journey, and a vision of what that afterlife might look like.
