Found this place through google review and decided to make a trip here.

Driving in KL is no easy feat and parking was limited. I parked one or two street away and walked to the restaurant.

We arrived just a little after 11am, on a Monday, and the place was not too busy. Staff were attentive and while the streets were old and dirty, the restaurant was clean.

Ordered the claypot chicken rice with salty fish and it was splendid! The chicken was tender, the sauce on the rice was tasteful and it was heavenly after you mix the salted fish with it.

The place has a rusty feel. It was fortunate we arrived earlier ahead of lunch as there was a queue shortly after.

Every shop is famous for a reason, and this one even received a Michelin award. It’s great for tourists, but for local Malaysians, preferences may vary. Honestly, I feel it might be a bit overrated, and I’ve never had claypot chicken served with chicken breast, which I personally don’t enjoy. Still, Michelin-recognized shops like this are important to promote Malaysian Chinese food to the world. 👍

Revisited recently after more than a decade due to its popularity.

We waited around 15 minutes on a Saturday afternoon, which was reasonable.

The Claypot chicken rice was decent, but I personally prefer a version with more pronounced ginger and salted fish flavors, which were missing here. Even with a double portion of salted fish added, the flavor didn’t stand out. Beyond the saltiness and crispy rice texture, the overall taste felt somewhat one-dimensional.

The chicken pieces were tender and decent, but I’ve had much better elsewhere, such as the Jalan Ipoh Claypot chicken rice.

This visit reminded me why I hadn’t returned sooner.

We wanted to try this restaurant for the longest time finally, we managed to do it on this trip. In fact, we made this place our first meal after arriving in Kuala Lumpur pulling our luggage along.

There was a queue when we arrived which was about 8pm plus. But it moved fast and in no time, we had placed our orders and shown to a table.

The claypot chicken rice was cooked right outside the restaurant. One could actually enjoy their cooking process. Interestingly, I saw that they had charcoal placed on top of the claypot as well. They cooked their rice from scratch but somehow, they managed to serve our meals pretty fast.

The chicken was really tender and flavorful. The rice had an extraordinary fragrant to it and we emptied the entire claypot, even the charred rice found at the bottom. Their claypot chicken rice was really tasty and very old school. Definitely worth a try.

Delicious charcoal claypot rice. Full of flavors and with crispy burnt rice at the bottom. We ordered the chicken rice. All side dishes are also very good. The homemade seafood tofu is super tasty. The pepper pig stomach soup prepared well and don't have any strange flavor. A proper waiting time needed for the claypot rice which takes time to cook.

Didn't feel thirsty afterwards; that means not having msg at all.

The restaurant is air conditioned in local style.
