In realtà lo conoscono come tale solo i Romani, e neanche tutti. E' abbastanza recente come istituzione (un centinaio d'anni, poco più) ma è molto ricco nei riferimenti storici. Si è soliti isolarlo alla sola area adiacente la bella Basilica di San Saba e la piazza centrale (Piazza Bernini, coi suoi giardini, che sono una specie di must per i residenti e che sono uno snodo per le passeggiate di quartiere oltre che l'inizio dei cosiddetti "villini" che altro non sono che case popolari, NdR) ma in realtà ha un perimetro molto più esteso che racchiude in sé attrazioni turistiche di grande rilievo: per essere precisi i suoi confini sono costituiti da Mura Aureliane, via di Porta San Sebastiano, viale delle Terme di Caracalla, viale Aventino, viale della Piramide Cestia e quindi ci trovate le terme, tutta l'area fino l'inizio dell'Appia antica, le chiese di San Saba e di Santa Balbina, la stupenda chiesa dei santi Nereo e Achilleo, il Semenzaio di San Sisto, il sepolcro degli Scipioni e tanto altro. Oggi è una ambitissima zona residenziale, abbastanza tranquilla e per molti versi simili alla Garbatella eppure di lussuoso non aveva nulla quando nel 1907 il Comune decise di far costruire delle abitazioni decorose per gli operai che lavoravano nella vicina zona industriale. Fu così che partì l’edificazione, da parte dell’Istituto Case Popolari, dei primi 10 lotti di edilizia residenziale”. Quegli edifici, oggi gestiti dall’Ater di Roma, vennero terminati nel 1923 (scorporando questo Rione come il rione Testaccio dal Rione Ripa). Quei lotti numerati oggi sono le piccole palazzine centrali che sono ambitissime come abitazioni e gelosamente custodite da assegnatari e soprattutto eredi. Quello che viene definito il "Piccolo Aventino" ha un suo fascino che potrete riscoprire solo passeggiando a piedi, poco distante dagli itinerari classici ma meritevole. Utili info? Today it is a highly sought-after residential area, quite quiet and in many ways similar to Garbatella and yet there was nothing luxurious about it when in 1907 the Municipality decided to build decent homes for the workers who worked in the nearby industrial area. This is how the construction of the first 10 residential building lots began by the Social Housing Institute." Those buildings, now managed by the Ater of Rome, were finished in 1923 (separating this district like the Testaccio district from the Ripa district). Those numbered lots today are the small central buildings which are highly coveted as homes and jealously guarded by assignees and above all heirs. Il Rione Rione XXI (San Saba), prende il nome dall’omonima chiesa (VIII secolo) presente sul suo territorio, considerando che unitamente al monastero per molto tempo furono gli unici edifici abitati nell’area, tanto che ancora all’inizio del XX secolo tali edifici erano in aperta campagna.

San Saba il XXI Rione di ROMA fu istituito nel 1921, ereditando una parte del territorio del Rione Ripa.

Diversi Lotti popolari vennero costruiti in quel periodo, fra gli ultimi intensivi edificati entro le mura, ed altri in seguito negli anni cinquanta, come l’importante edificio della FAO (1951).

Il simbolo del Rione, considerandolo nella sua versione policroma, è rappresentato dallo stemma con uno sfondo di azzurro cielo, con una luna colore argento verso l’alto e l’Arco di Diana colore oro.

In questo rione sono ben conservati lungi tratti di mura Aureliane e le relative porte come l’imponente Porta di San Sebastiano con vicino il suggestivo Arco di Druso.

Non a caso in questa zona si trova il Museo delle Mura, un viaggio suggestivo nell’antica Roma, attraverso i camminamenti fra importanti testimonianze storiche.

I nomi del rione sono dedicati ai grandi architetti che hanno reso grande Roma, basti citare Piazza Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

The Rione XXI (San Saba) district takes its name from the church of the same name (8th century) present in its territory, considering that together with the monastery for a long time they were the only inhabited buildings in the area, so much so that even at the beginning of the 20th century these buildings were in the open countryside.

San Saba the XXI Rione of ROME was established in 1921, inheriting part of the territory of the Ripa Rione.

Several popular lots were built in that period, among the last intensives built within the walls, and others later in the fifties, such as the important FAO building (1951).

The symbol of the district, considering it in its polychrome version, is represented by the coat of arms with a sky blue background, with a silver colored moon pointing upwards and the gold colored Arch of Diana.

Uno dei luoghi più riservato, affascinante ed elegante di Roma.
Si può passeggiare in piena tranquillità, cosa rara ormai, ammirando la maestosità degli alberi situati in giardini privati e in qualche parco.
Luogo consigliato anche a chi ama l'architettura. Ci sono splendide palazzine a due piani, con torrette, bifore, vetrate,  bovindi, abbaini.
Un luogo magico che fa dimenticare il caos della città.
E forse in piena notte, quasi furtiva, transita una vecchia carrozza a cavalli, spiata dalla luna...

Bellissimo quartiere semicentrale di Roma. Nato ad inizio '900 intorno alla medioevale basilica di San Saba come quartiere popolare, ha sviluppato intorno agli anni'20 anche una zona di bellissimi villini per il ceto professionale. A partire dagli anni '90 si è trasformato in un quartiere molto ricercato. Si respira un'aria tranquilla e si sta in mezzo al verde. Alcuni locali di tendenza si mescolano con tradizionali trattorie romane. Da visitare passandoci del tempo passeggiando ed ammirando l'architettura residenziale romana di primo '900.
