What a beautiful and serene place in the middle of such a bustling city. An absolute go-to to  while visiting Rome.

The website to buy tickets is a little shoddy, but works. Prices are very fair at €5,- per person.

Come early, enjoy the sights and get scared by the 12 o’clock cannon shot.

Faced with spending 30 minutes in a line just to get through the bag search to get in to St Peter's Square or taking the short walk to the botanical garden I opted for the latter. It proved to be far more relaxing and maybe more interesting. I'll let you know if I ever get in to Vatican City.
This garden is not the best or the biggest I have visited by a long way. An hour will be enough to  make the tour. Labelling is sparse except for the big trees so use a plant ID app like Seek if you want to know what they are.
Many areas like the rose garden are full of weeds and other areas are sparsely planted.
The cactus garden is interesting as is the bamboo plantation. There are many big old trees that host flocks of noisy green parakeets.
There is a toilet if you have your own toilet roll and a vending machine for drinks and snacks is the only catering offering.
Nevertheless your 5 euro entrance fee keeps this vital garden going and that's the main thing.

The botanical park is beautiful during the day, however we went to the lights event which is overrated and too expensive.

Too noisy and full of children running around uncontrollably, it's hard to see the place in those conditions.

A large botanical garden. You can walk around, relax, in sunny weather it is especially nice to hide in the shade. You can visit the greenhouse in the botanical garden. Beautiful nature in an interesting neighborhood of Rome - Trastevere!

While I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the Botanical garden, there are a couple of things you as a tourist should know before you go.
Firstly, the back entrance (up the hill, near Fontana dell'Acqua Paola), to which the Google Maps led me, might be closed. It had a sign that read “Door open, tickets inside”, but the door was closed and the ticket office empty. In this case you have to go all the way around down the hill to the main entrance, then make your way up inside the gardens, which is quite an exercise.
Secondly, if you would like to visit the Butterfly house, don’t go on Monday as it’s closed.
Finally, while the gardens have some orangeries with cacti and tropical plants, an amazing bamboo ‘forest’ and a cute Japanese garden offering nice views of the city, there’s little new you can find if you go to botanical gardens often. If you don’t have much time, for a quiet time to get away from the crowds and enjoy the nature I would recommend something more central like Borghese Park.
But if you do have time, this is definitely worth the 5 euro they charge for entrance.
