We were recommended El Xampanyet by some friends who visited over 30 years ago and had said this was the best tapas restaurant they had been to. 30 years later - we agree!

This was by far the best meal we had in Barcelona. Located in the heart of El Born, there are no reservations, so you will need to queue for a table. Expect a wait of up to an hour, but know that it is so worth it!

The restaurant is small and cozy, with a mixture of small tables and spaces to stand at the bar and eat like a local . The staff seemed genuinely happy and made you feel at home when you arrive.

Although the wine menu was smaller than your average restaurant, the selection was well thought out and complemented the food perfectly.

Everything we ate here was excellent. Dishes not to miss include the pan con tomate, Spanish omelette, octopus, Iberian pork with padron peppers and chickpeas in pork jowl.

Make sure you save room for the truffles with sea salt and olive oil! Honestly one of the best desserts we have had.

For the quality of the food, the experience and the service we received, we were pleasantly surprised by the bill. Amazing value and definitely worth the wait!

Best tapas I’ve ever had. Wait in the line and you won’t regret it. Our server recommended the razor clams and the octopus ..it was amazing. Be prepared to sit very close to each other, we shared a table with another couple. This will be the best thing you have.

A little hole in the wall spot doing some amazing things. They have a set menu, but sporadically throughout the night they will come around with chef creations. The vibe is everyone having a good time, forgetting about the wait outside(no reservations), and bonding over the common good that brings everyone together... food. Worth the wait, the steak and char grilled peppers were unreal. Take the time to wait, and enjoy the tiny hole in the wall with amazing food

Yes, shut up, stop reading, just come. We had three separate tour guides recommend this for the 'authentic' tapas experience. Here's what you do: you need to arrive at 6.45 and line up. It opens at 7.00. Don't worry about sitting a table, you can sit at a table at any other restaurant. Stand at the bar, like the locals do. And then go nuts! Ask the staff what they recommend. Let them decide for you. Try something new or different. Everything on offer is brilliant and reasonably priced. It's loud, it's chaotic and it was our favourite meal in Barcelona.

A very special tapas place with a huge queue (worth the wait), there’s a no-reservation policy. The staff is super busy but extremely friendly. It’s an old school place full of vintage items (check out their awesome fridge), the selection of tapas is huge but it’s good to reserve the items you really want while you’re waiting for a table (as they tend to run out) and sipping the famous xampanyet (homemade brand of sparkling wine).
