Celebrated my fiancé’s birthday here and they left no stones unturned in the food and service. Choicest of ingredients prepared with passion and served spectacularly with panache. It’s as good as fine dining gets. Besides the warmth and attentiveness of the staff, wanna call out how they go above and beyond in ensuring that it’s one of your most memorable nights dining out. An anecdote is, one of the servers noted our interest in hot sauces from my questions about the dishes, and we had an experimental hot sauce to-go from the chef with our breakfast for next day. Can’t recommend Lazy Bear enough 🐻

Such an amazing time. Went in for my friends birthday dinner. This was the last night of communal tables before they changed up service, so felt very lucky to be there. We were greeted when we entered and lead upstairs for cocktails and appetizers. Everything was so good. Service was very attentive. Different chefs explained each dish to the diners. The head chef encouraged every to come up to the pass to chat with them. Can't wait to come back and see what's different after the remodel.

Ever since moving to SF, I have only heard stellar reviews about Lazy Bear. I finally had a chance to visit and cross it off my list -- and walked in with extremely high hopes.

I did leave speechless, but not in a good way; since Lazy Bear now has the distinction of being the first time where I've actively regretted spending $$$$ on a Michelin star restaurant.

The atmosphere and service were all fine, but enough of the courses were misses / mediocre that I left extremely underwhelmed and still peckish.

1. Forager's Tisane - 0/10, since I disliked it so much that I did not finish drinking this palate cleanser.

2. Whipped Scrambled Eggs - 4/10

3. Snacks: Sourdough bread bowl, Beef & broccoli tart, Brown rice cracker - 7/10, these small bites were decent but nothing especially memorable.

4. Bay Scallop - 8.5/10, things were looking promising here

5. Dungeness Crab - 6.5/10, the crab itself was juicy and tender, but the sauce was too salty; I had to take a sip of water every few bites.

6. Lazy Bear Cultured Butter - 5/10, I know this is one of the signature dishes but it was just... okay? Again, the butter was a bit too salty for me.

7. Fondue - 10/10, this was 🔥 and by far the best course. Imagine a very creamy gnocchi dish with black truffle.

8. Grilled Squab - 8/10, simple dish but the squab was cooked perfectly. Wished there was more than just two small pieces.

9. Wagyu Ribeye - 4/10, it came with an oxtail puff which was decent, but the wagyu itself was just 'meh' (fwiw, I'm also not the biggest wagyu fan). Did not think it paired well with the sauce, again was too salty and overpowering.

10. Creamsicle - 8.5/10, a great refreshing dessert palate cleanser

11. Honeynut Squash - 7/10, I have a huge sweet tooth and have had a lot of desserts in my life. Was a fan of the chocolate "ferrero rocher" half of this dessert; did not care much for the rest.

The food is here amazing start to finish. The desert is was so delightful. I loved all the food here and when I went, there were a lot of fish dish and all of them were great. It was rich in flavor but still not heavy. The staff makes you feel comfortable. The service is amazing because they are not stiff and yet make you feel very attended. The atmosphere is fun like dark cabin in the mountains like cozy and grand. I will for sure come back in the future.

I was underwhelmed. Overall I enjoyed the dinner, especially the egg mousse and grit. Their chefs seemed to like to put lots of salt in everything.  I found the butter, trout soup, shrimp grill and a couple of other dishes way too salty. Not the best Michelin-starred restaurants I have been to. Not great for value.
