On arrival, it felt very busy, yet hardly anyone was in there. We over heard that they were fully booked and the ladies behind the bar, were kind enough to squeeze us in, which was appreciated. The place was your classic pub look and smell. The place looked clean and our drink were nice and cold and refreshing.
What let it down massively for us, was the food. I opted for the seafood medley and my husband had the pie (both were their specials) I wish I had asked about the seafood as nothing on the board stated it was all deep fat fried. Everything was dark brown, as if the oil hadn't been changed in a while. It wasn't enjoyable and I wish I took it back but was too tired and hungry after a 6hr hike. My husband didn't mind his pie but felt it was more like a stew with a pie top, the meat was nice but the flavour was a little Bland. If it wasn't for the reasonable prices, I would have said something. I'm glad we didn't pay too much for this food.

Ordered the full rack of ribs and lasagne.  The full rack of ribs were HUGE but my husband still managed to smash them all!!! The homemade lasagne was gorgeous, really enjoyed it.  All the staff were really friendly and welcoming.  Thanks all, we’ll definitely be back.

Once again a wonderful welcome, always a great atmosphere and a warm fire. Excellent food, eat here if you are passing! Good selection of real ales, beers and spirits.

The Royal Oak is situated by the side of the canal, it has a beer garden that backs onto the canal and you can also eat in doors. Due to covid restrictions it's best to phone up and book a reservation if there are a lot of you going. We had a party of 8, six adults and two children and we were able to get seating close to one another. The staff were great with the kids. And the food was very nice. Would recommend.

Update 17/09/2024: 1st visit for some time but, luckily for us, on a glorious summer day. Enjoyed a decent lunch in the garden. New photos added.

The Royal Oak was upgraded some considerable years ago from a bog standard pub to become a firm favourite of mine! It's well situated with its garden by the canal and, although the menu is generally quite short, the food it serves is always very good and excellent value for money. I highly recommend a visit!
