It was a warm day and this place was right before Philosopher's Path. The soft serve looked too good to pass up. I got the black sesame. Just down the street there are several other places that are a bit less. Didn't try them but if I were back here, I would be more inclined to try them than to come back here just to try out their flavors. I've had black sesame soft serve at other places in the States. I thought I would be getting a similar flavor but this one was a bit odd. It had notes of mint in it. They were pretty strong, actually and it wasn't the flavor I was expecting. I'm not one to throw away ice cream, so I finished it but it wasn't what I thought I was going to get.

If you take the 32 Bus to Ginkakuji, as you approach the Philosopher's Path you might find yourself craving something cold to balance the warm day or your own personal struggles hypoglycemia. This place with the word "Kafka" (possibly named after the writer?) might solve your ills. I was in the mood for sesame and ice cream. Well what do you know? This place sold sesame flavored ice cream!!! I had that and it was splendid! I saw other interesting flavors like white peach and grape which I am sure are also just as refreshing. Definitely the perfect way to start your journey along the path of Philosophy.

Avoid this place. It's overpriced, and the proprietor is extraordinarily rude. I wanted to get myself a coffee, and get an ice cream for my wife and daughter. Ice cream is not served within the café, but instead from the serving window. Coffee is not served from the serving window, but only from the cafe. So we came into the café to get the coffee, with the intention of then getting ice cream for my wife and daughter after. We were pleasant, said konnichiwa, smiled, bowed, etc. but for whatever reason the proprietor was extraordinarily hostile and rude right from the start. It was a jarring experience in a country in which we have found most everyone to be polite and welcoming and pleasant. Then we looked at the prices on the menu and were astonished. For a nice experience, we will happily pay a little extra. But to sit in an empty café with a nasty person scowling at us? Nope. We left and went to the shop next-door and had very tasty ice cream and a nice conversation with the owners, and I got my coffee for 130 Yen from one of the vending machines on the street.

One of the worst tourist traps. Double espresso costs 1080 and takes 30 min to prepare. It was the first place in Japan where they we're trying to rip us off. We have one person in the group who was not ordering anything. They asked him to leave. Never again!
