# Gong Cha Harajuku Omotesando – Authentic Taiwanese Bubble Tea in Tokyo

I had a hair appt in Omotesando and had some time before to walk around a bit. After looking at the various shops and reminding myself to come back afterwards to browse - we found Gong Cha and decided we needed a break. Gong Cha is one of my favorite shops back home, so I was eager to see how one in Japan measures up. I got my mom a taro milk tea and myself a brown sugar milk tea with pearls. After ordering at the kiosk (there's two near the entrance), we sat down and waited. After about 5 minutes, our drinks were ready and we hung out at the shop for a bit. The shop was small, but nicely laid out. Everything was clean and service was great. My mom must have been thirsty - she drank her tea quickly! I enjoyed my brown sugar milk tea - it had a good flavor and seemed fresher than what I get at home (maybe I'm imagining it, lol). The pearls were also a great consistency.

Shopping in Harajuku and decided a Bubble Tea was in order. This is located on one of the quieter side streets away from the busier streets. Fortunately, when we stepped inside, there was no line. Perfect. However, there was no seating available, so we opted to take our orders to go. Be ready to answer all the questions: 1. Tea?Milk Tea 2. Size? Small 2. Hot or Iced? Iced 3. How much Ice? Less 4. Toppings? Milk Foam & Pearls Ahhh. Sweat treat as I strolled the alleys window shopping.

Boyfriend and I were obsessed with Gong Cha before we visited Japan, so to find a shop while we were out and about around Shibuya was like a piece of home! It was a really random find too. I was just browsing nearby shops near Omotesando and saw it pop up on Google maps. We walked through a small alley with a few shops and found it! The cafe is relatively small with a capacity of about 15 people for seating/tables. However, lines are super long here and it gets pretty crowded, but it moves relatively fast. The difference with American standards are the sizing and the menu assortments. I saw something I've never seen before, so I had to try the Mango Alisan Tea Ade. It was so refreshing and a good balance of sweet and sour. It was very similar fashion of an Arnold Palmer but mango flavored! Boyfriend got his usual order of milk tea with boba, but they didn't have an option for egg pudding! The boba was just okay. They didn't have the right consistency of chewiness and texture, but it hit the spot for our boba/refreshment needs. I wish we found out about this place sooner and frequented the area more. Boba in Japan has been trending, but most places were mediocre at best. If you thirst for tea or boba, I recommend coming here. Just be prepared to stand in line and wait :)

This place is as yummy as most average places overseas. The boba is fresh and chewy, and the tea is not too sweet. It's nothing mind-blowing or exceptional. It is what you would expect. Although we had to wait in line for quite a while, it was worth it for me to get this nostalgic treat. We went with a Japanese friend who wasn't too impressed.

Gong Cha is just that much better in Japan. Ha But, get ready to wait on a line. We came here twice and both times we stood on a line. However, it moves pretty quickly. It's small inside, so if you are looking to sit make sure to snag a table when you see it. Great location as well! Middle of Harajuku.

Crazy that every time I passed by Gong Cha in Japan the line has been around the corner. There's a Gong Cha in the East Bay that has nowhere near the same amount of people so the lines made me curious if it was that much better. Although lines are out the door they do a good job controlling the line and move it quickly. They have one line to the register to pay/order and once you do that you go into another one to get your order. This keeps people organized in their shop and separated from the rest of the seating area. I ended up getting the classic milk tea w/boba just to see how different it is from the US and it tastes great! There's something about boba in the US/Asia and I gotta say that boba in Japan is that much better. The boba was nice and chewy and the milk tea even at the regular percentage was just the right amount. I feel like getting boba in the US sometimes is so much sweeter so I was pleasantly surprised. There's a reason why there's always a line out of this shop and it is validated. I have to admit the line here was much shorter than the other locations I've seen in Shinjuku and Harajuku so if you want to try this location might be a good bet.

Hands down probably the one of the best boba spots in Japan. There's always a line. This is Taiwanese style boba tea, so if you're familiar with boba tea you'll know they make some of the best!. I had the Taro smoothie with pearls. The boba was perfect. Clearly fresh and very soft you even get that nice gooey warm boba taste which is usually evident in well maintained and fresh boba. The taste of the Taro smooth was a subtle sweetness but very very tasty. This is certainly one of the best boba places I have been to. I found myself craving this place and went multiple times.If you like bubble tea YOU NEED TO TRY THIS!.

Nice little shop with authentic tea hidden on one of Harajuku's backstreets. This is a great place for a truly customized tea with delicious flavors and cheerful service. I tried one of the special offerings, a blend of green tea, passion fruit juice, and lemonade. It was just sweet enough without being overpowering, and not too fruity. The shop itself is quite small, so seating can be hard to come by. Additionally, some of the tables are awkwardly positioned, so it can be quite difficult to maneuver past others to get to a seat (or have them maneuver around you so they can sit down). Any group bigger than three faces a bit of a challenge.

Their sign caught my eye when I was walking down a random street one morning around Harajuku. Had their honey black milk tea and it was quite tasty! Went on a weekday morning so finding a seat was easy and the transaction time was fast. People were in and out of the store. I definitely want to try some more of their drinks, but it'll be at one of their American branches.

First time trying and was not disappointed. You will stand in a line to get your drink though, which is fine because it moves rather quickly. There's two lines...the order/pay line and the pickup line. I tried the chocolate milk tea w/boba. It was good but I should have added extra sweetener (I know for next time). The drink was cold and smooth and the boba was fresh, lightly sweetened, and the perfect consistency of chewiness. I will definitely be back again. It was the perfect treat after eating lunch at TGI Friday's! :)
