# R.a.a.g.f原宿店 – Rabbit Cafe in Harajuku, Tokyo, Unique Experience, Pet Interaction, Cozy Atmosphere

R.a.a.g.f原宿店, or Rabbit and Grow Fat, is a charming rabbit cafe located in Harajuku, Tokyo. Nestled on the third floor of a residential building, this unique establishment offers visitors a chance to interact with a variety of adorable rabbits in a cozy setting. The cafe is well-known for its friendly service and English menu, making it accessible for tourists. With a history rooted in the love for animals, R.a.a.g.f has become a beloved spot for both locals and visitors. If you like rabbits and don't own any, you should totally visit a rabbit cafe while in Japan! R.a.a.f.g is well-known and has an English menu so we decided to check it out. It is located on the 3rd floor of an apartment on a small side street in a residential part of Harajuku. It can be challenging to find but with GPS via our portable wifi device, we were able to locate it--look for the cute R.a.a.f.g. sign someone posted in the photos! Since R.a.a.f.g is located in an apartment building, it seems like someone just had the ingenious idea of converting their apartment into a rabbit cafe. The cafe is small and only has two tables inside so it can only take two groups at a time. As such, reservations are necessary. But if you don't have reservations and have a fairly flexible schedule, they can schedule you for a later time if you show up and they are full at the moment. We showed up without a reservation on a Monday at around 1:15 PM and they scheduled us for 2:30 PM that same day. We walked around and came upon Cat Street, which we had a hard time locating earlier so it worked out beautifully. You must stay a minimum of 30 minutes (the time flies by!). It's 700 yen per person for 30 minutes or 1100 yen per person for 1 hour. The cover charge includes your choice of a soft drink or tea. The cold lemon tea was very refreshing! You can purchase a little bowl of apple slices and veggies to feed the rabbits for an additional 150 yen. There are many rabbits in cages that you can pet and feed. Some of them are polite and will daintily nibble the food you hold out for them while others are more excitable and might snatch the food out of your hand. You can also choose one rabbit to come out and play but choose wisely because you choose for the entire room! The cafe only allows one rabbit out at a time so that they don't fight each other. You can change a rabbit once every 15 minutes so the other group and ours each got to choose one rabbit. When a rabbit first comes out, it will likely head straight for the designated area to do its business for a couple minutes. It's best not to lure the rabbit with fresh apples/veggies at that time or the rabbit might pee around the room soon after haha. This was a relaxing experience and offered nice reprieve from the sweltering heat of a Japanese summer's day!

I want more people to visit this cute cafe. The service is friendly and it seems they take care of the rabbits when the bunnies interact with the shop workers. There are more than 20 kinds or rabbits to play with ; however, they only allow 2 out of the cage at the same time in the separate areas. To play with a rabbit with a free drink costs about $13-15 usd (30 mins) and a feeding cup costs about 4.99. I own bunnies myself and I want them to be cage free as much as possible. Again, this is Tokyo we are talking about. The space is really tiny with this many rabbits. I am not sure if all of them gets the exercised daily outside the cage because it's difficult for them to move or even stretch in the cage. Again, the overall experience is good. If you are allergic to animal fur, be aware.

The girls that work at this cafe are reaaaalllly nice. And it seems that they train the bunnies well too. They will give the bunnies treats to get them in a good position for a photo. I paid for an hour here and it went by pretty quick. I got to play with the super huge lop. It was the biggest bunny I had ever seen in my life. I only minused one star because they don't let you hold them so it gets boring after watching them hop around for a while. I have a bunny at home so I understand that not all bunnies like to be picked up but most can be trained to be ok with it if they were handled at a young age. You can feed them for Y100

One star is for the treatment and environment these poor bunnies received. The staff are nice and friendly. Bunnies are being housed individually in a very small wired cage, a litter pan would not fit in the cage so of course these bunnies are not litter trained. The more severe issues are the wired bottom of the cage is bad for the bunnies' feet. Big bunnies can barely turn around in the tiny cage. Most bunnies are not spayed/neutered, it's normal if they keep on humping your leg. However, one of the poor buns was named "Locco" (Crazy in Spanish) because the staff said he is crazy, keep humping. One bunny has severe head tilt, one is blind, the environment could be very stressful for them as they might get picked anytime by people who come to play with them. I hope this message will get to the owner of this place and improve the living environment and how these bunnies were treated. I left this place feeling very sad and I really hope this message is well delivered.

R.A.A.G.F. stands for Rabbit and Grow Fat (awesome name) is a nice calm and soothing departure from the very hectic Harajuku street nearby. It's a little off the beaten path and requires you go down an alley to the 3rd floor of a nondescript apartment. What you need to look for is the rabbit sign (photos included). Reservations are needed here. But the good things is they can slot you in for a later time on the day of your visit if you show up the day of and forgot to reserve in advance. The rule here is one rabbit every 15 minutes. (They clearly explain this is so they don't fight each other or hump each other!) Which means if you reserve the minimum 30 minutes for 700 yen, you get 2 rabbits so choose wisely! Because everyone in the cafe shares that rabbit. Fortunately you can however take pics and pet all the over a dozen rabbits in the cages at all times. One thing I would advise all rabbit lovers is to realize that some of these rabbits don't get out much because they aren't as cute or popular as the other rabbits. So if you choose the white rabbit on the bottom left corner with the red eyes, he'll raise a ruckus once he gets out! He pawed at all the walls, tables, people and just gobble up all the rabbit food/snacks. He even peed on one of us! There's a mega rabbit too that you have to ask for. He's massive and incredibly fluffy. If you're super ambitious you can go here and then afterwards across the hall is the Choosy Cat Cafe. There's a pretty standard menu of hot or cold drinks you can order which are included as part of the admission fee. We ended up with teas, hot chocolate, and orange juice. But really, you're so focused on the bunnies that you don't even really have time to enjoy your drinks. That means you'll be chugging away at the end of your allotted time. Tip: Rabbit food (not included) is 150 yen.

The rabbit cafe itself is I would say 5 stars because the rabbits are adorable and its a very interactive experience as they allow you to pat all the rabbits and take as many pictures as you like however I have ultimately rated it 3 stars. As a rabbit lover and owner myself, just a pre warning to fellow Yelpers going to visit... be completely aware that it is what it is. Its a rabbit cafe and also in a place like Tokyo where space is scarce. The staff are very nice and welcoming and some even have pet rabbits themselves however the cages for the rabbits are tiny honestly, some on them cannot do a full stretch because the cage is just too small. This personally turned the experience into being a bittersweet one. However overall as a rabbit cafe it was very good just wish the bunnies had more cage space..

Brilliant cafe concept, lovely rabbits to play with. The service was very attentive and spoke English which really helped. We stayed for an hour session and managed to have at least one of the rabbits we picked out of the cage. They make it clear that some rabbits need to rest so each rabbit gets time out the cage and at least 15 mins.

Had to experience a pet cafe before leaving Japan! I brought my 3.5 yr old daughter with me and only bunny and owl cafes allow 3 year olds (but no touching owls, bunnies can be pet). My daughter was really scared of the bunnies but fortunately only one was allowed out at a time so she could stand on the other side of a short wall to watch me play with it. Sadly she refused to pet any! We were the only guests there and there are two workers so that was good. Reservations are recommended from the tourist info center across from Harajuku station who can book the visit for you so you don't have to worry about the language barrier. However the ladies at the cafe spoke some English. As others said, the cafe is like an old apartment, converted into a cafe. There were about 17 bunnies in small cages. You get to choose a beverage, but we were so occupied with the bunnies that we took our bottled drinks to go. You're allowed to open most cages to pet the bunnies but only one can be allowed out every 15 min. You get a small bowl of snacks (lettuce, carrot shreds, apples) to feed, and some bunnies are picky about what they eat! I asked to play with the friendliest bunny, and the biggest one. The largest one is enormous!! The ladies there were kind to take photos for me. So memorable! Note that bunnies pee and poop everywhere so when they ask you to remove your shoes, I recommend wearing the slippers they provide.... We stayed for 30 min which was enough for my daughter. I recommend visiting a pet cafe at least once in Japan! Next time I'd love to visit a cat cafe when my daughter is old enough.

BUNNIES! The ladies here do seem to really care about the bunnies, and the bunnies are super cute. They take time to explain the bunnies' personalities to you and help you interact with them. They speak enough English to help you and answer your questions - no issues here. Most of these bunnies are rescues, so while I'm not 100% keen on them spending the day in cages, at least they get some love and exercise during the day. The only thing I take a star off for is that you may share a bunny pen with another guest during the time you pay for, and if that person is monopolizing the bunny you're basically left to either watch or play with other bunnies through the cage. I would have liked the time we paid for to to be just for my husband and me, and not the random girl who took 230924 freakin photos.

It was ok. Very small. 12-15 rabbits to choose from. Several have been injured in some way leaving permanent injuries - so sad. Everyone was nice. My daughter enjoyed it and the rabbits didn't seem unhappy. The place was clean. Only two customer groups fit at a time so I can imagine you could have a very long wait or need to make reservations. Just wasn't overly impressed nor was I terribly put off. Can't say you MUST do this... nor can I say you should run away.... it's just sort of there.
