Wife and I had a great evening in here. Dog friendly in the bar area too! They brought water over immediately for our little pup.

Amazing top quality cocktails with ingredients I’d never even heard of which I always enjoy. We also had a flight of 4 whiskies for £20 which we thought was good value and we enjoyed sampling them.

It was sumptuous and scintillating.

A real hidden gem, and our evening meal here was wonderful! The exposed brickwork gives a really interesting and unique vibe to the decor, with the pleasant atmosphere keeping it cosy. If you like whisky them you’ll appreciate the bar on the ground floor, which has hundreds of options, all detailed in their huge menu book.

Our table was on the top floor which felt like dining in the roof, which was great! The staff throughout the meal were all fantastic, being knowledgeable with the menu and friendly. The menu has a nice range of dishes without being excessively large, with a good focus on local ingredients.

The starter of black haggis was exceptional; it’s a shame I couldn’t have it again as a main dish! Instead I opted for the venison. The meat was cooked perfectly but I have to say some of the accompanying items didn’t quite match, such as the leeks being a bit chewy. The recommended coffee cake desert was harder than I imagined it would be, but it rounded things off nicely.

Overall it was a high end meal in a great setting, complete with brilliant service. I’d highly recommend to anyone wanting a memorable evening meal.

Omg after reading the reviews I thought we have to try this place...disappointed NOT A CHANCE.  It lived up to the reviews and definitely recommend the black pudding starter and the pork as a main. Hubby had soup to start and fish and chips.  Sounds boring but he was loving every mouthful.  Amazing experience thank you

Food rating = Drinks, as we popped in for a Flight of Scotch and a pint. Great atmosphere, and the workout climbing stairs makes it even better. Scottish Road Trip Flight was amazing. Bar tenders gave sound advice on order of which to drink. Price was spot on. Pop in if you're in the area. Food is amazing as well from what I hear.

Atmosfären var stor. I hjärtat av gamla stan. Menyn, Servicen och priset var också nöjda. Men när vi var där var det ganska trångt och musiken var hög. Men vi gillade och rekommenderar definitivt

Jag blev förvånad. En kusin som bor i Edinburgh sa att det här var en bra pub och den bästa margaritas i Skottland. Det var absolut *den bästa* margaritas i Storbritannien! Helt rekommendera

Jag försökte boka bord för 10 personer en torsdagskväll till min bästa väns 30-årsdag – hon är hemma från London, och The Devil’s Advocate är hennes favoritbar. Jag mailade, ringde flera gånger och skickade även ett meddelande via Instagram men fick inget svar. Till slut bokade jag online och lade till detaljerna i rutan ”speciella önskemål”, bara för att bokningen skulle avvisas ett par timmar senare med förklaringen att de inte kunde rymma 10 personer för middag. Om så är fallet, varför tillåta bokningen överhuvudtaget? Vad som gjorde det värre var att det inte fanns någon ursäkt och ingen ansträngning att föreslå ett alternativ – inte ens utrymme i baren för drinkar. Nu lämnas jag scrambling för en sista - minuten bokning för ett speciellt tillfälle. Det är verkligen en besvikelse, särskilt som vi brukade besöka denna bar regelbundet och såg fram emot att gå tillbaka för gamla tiders skull. Tyvärr innebär den dåliga kommunikationen och bristen på kundservice att de har förlorat vår verksamhet

Gick till Devil’s Advocate 2017 och älskade det. Tyvärr var vår returresa mycket nedslående – särskilt när det gäller Service. Vi satt i området med utsikt över baren (ca 8 bord) , som verkade tilldelas en server. Vi var där i över 20 minuter, innan vi var tvungna att flagga ner henne för att ens erkänna vår närvaro. Hon bussade andra bord innan hon ens hälsade på oss. Hon tog våra drinkbeställningar och en begäran om vatten. Tio minuter senare försökte vi få hennes uppmärksamhet att begära vatten igen, när en annan server märkte och gav oss en flaska. Det verkade som om vi var osynliga när hon skyndade runt vårt bord – medvetet ignorerade oss. Efter 40 minuter, fortfarande väntande på våra drinkar, flaggade vi den andra servern som förklarade att det hade varit ett problem i baren som försenade drinkarna. 20 minuter efter beställningen och ingen kom förbi för att meddela oss. Istället för en ursäkt fick han oss att känna oss orimliga för att vi var lite frustrerade över förseningen. Jag förstår att restauranger blir upptagna och problem uppstår, men det finns ingen ursäkt för att ignorera kunder.

Besökte den sista söndagen i Fringe, bevittnade servitören skaka på huvudet åt en amerikansk kund, helt enkelt för att fråga var man kan få Service. Jag väntade över 5 minuter trots att ingen var framför mig i baren. Extra oförskämd till kunder som väntar på Service. Jag är ursprungligen från Edinburgh men denna bar har gått utför med några av de värsta personal jag har upplevt i Edinburgh. Varm öl, genomsnittliga cocktails och medelmåttig mat. Jag vet inte om det har bytt ledning, men jag skulle undvika särskilt om en turist.

Kul atmosfär i baren på nedervåningen och utsökt mat i matsalen på övervåningen. Vi provade biff och single malt whisky, när i Edinburgh! ? Försök att komma några minuter tidigare, eftersom du kommer att vilja stanna och ta några bilder av utsikten mot Scott Monument.

Underväldigande mat, denna plats är en turistfälla. Om du vill ha bra Service och god mat finns det massor av restauranger som är bättre val. Fall inte för hypen. Servrarna och bartendrarna är till stor del mycket unga och inte kunniga om mat, vin eller whisky.

Efter att ha läst några av de mindre än smickrande recensioner, blev vi mer än positivt överraskade av kvaliteten på maten och den fantastiska Servicen. Vi hade anka, kummel och biff som huvudrätter och de var alla bra. Servicen var snabb och vänlig. Skulle definitivt rekommendera

Extremt dålig service och personalen hade en mycket kunde inte ge en flip attityd. Maten knappt medelmåttig. De måste skärpa sig. Vem som än bestämmer måste ta över. Kan inte rekommendera.

Efter middagen letade vi efter ett ställe att få några drinkar. Vibben på denna plats är fantastisk. De har ett ganska stort utbud av cocktails, inklusive några whisky baserade på berömda "vanliga" cocktails. Priserna var ganska bra jämfört med andra platser.

Ett varmt välkomnande i en mycket tilltalande bar. Mysigt bord i en något mörk men stämningsfull restaurang. Vänlig personal som serverar. Förrätten var mycket god , biffar till huvudrätt tillagade väl men snåla på såsen, inte säker på varför för £ 29 ? Inget på dessertmenyn som frestade oss men det är en individuell smak. Utanför allfartsvägarna men värt att titta in.

Enkelt att boka online. Vänlig personal med rätt balans av uppmärksamhet när vi var ute för ett par’s treat lunch. Bra val på menyn, rimliga vinalternativ. Maten var utsökt. Stämningsfull plats. Älskade det.

Ett bra ställe för en kväll. Maten var top notch som var service och atmosfär. Trevlig upplevelse som behövdes efter rugbyn!

Service ganska dålig runt. Några medlemmar av personalen gick förbi oss vid incheckningen utan bekräftelse. Ok det kanske inte är allas jobb att sitta men försök att vara lite välkomnande. Beställningen var ok men det hade varit trevligt att prova vinet och kanske hälla det istället för att det öppnas och lämnas på bordet. Mat kom och vi delade några saker på ett litet bord. Maten var nästan passerbar - vi hade en fiskbräda och vitbetet smakade som om de hade återvunnits från en tidigare service. Levererade utan mycket hjälp och vi fick ordna om allt och sätta en skål på sidotallrikar och be någon att ta bort den tomma tallriken eftersom det inte fanns plats att ställa den någon annanstans. Ätit upp maten och väntat i cirka 20 minuter på att bordet skulle dukas av. Vi beställde kaffe och dessert snabbt eftersom vi var oroliga att vi inte skulle se någon igen på ett tag. Färdig och bad om notan. Hela summan inklusive dricks stoppade du bara i kortautomaten utan att kolla att detta var ok. Jag brydde mig inte om att göra väsen av mig och kanske borde jag ha gjort det. Berättade samtidigt betala att de behövde vårt bord tillbaka som var ganska förvånande med tanke på den långsamma service vi upplevde. Kändes lite som om stället bara ville ha våra pengar och att gå vidare till nästa kund. Synd eftersom denna plats brukade vara en dold pärla men det har förlorat all sin charm. Kommer att gå någon annanstans i framtiden.
