If you're a North Shore/Chicago native, you'll know that Dong-Ah Food has always been the craze to get one's KFC fix - people order catering trays, or, if you're lucky enough, there may be some a la carte of the wings in different sizes that come right out of the kitchen to pick up to-go. Unfortunately, the owners have changed, and it is now not Korean-, but Filipino-owned. Not that there's anything wrong with this, but the recipe for the chicken didn't seemed to have been shared, or the new owners' execution is not correct; either way, the flavoring of the wings have been off ever since. Not worth the visit nor the $ spent, as the prices have also exponentially increased for the lack of quality control/flavorless chicken. The OG Dong-Ah fans are already disappointed, and this place isn't part of anyone's rotation any longer. No dice. +avoid the KFC +changed owners

This used to be one of my favorite places to get Korean Chicken Wings, Chop Chae, & Kimbap To-Go. They were available on the counter and if not they would make it for you on the spot. Those days are gone. I just called for singular orders (not Catering) of Chicken Wings, Chop Chae, & Kimbap. Chicken Wings would be available sometime later today, Chop Chae needed to be called in 3 Days in advance! And I wasn't even given an ETA for Kimbap so not sure if they offer it anymore. So sad I wanted to support them but unfortunately I'll be ordering from another Korean restaurant.

I came in here after shopping at the store next door, I was very hungry and the owner treated me to his signature korean fried chicken doused in sauce. I enjoyed the chicken nothing like I tasted before it's a one of a kind sauce, the chicken is meaty unlike some other fast-food. I will come back and show love to the local place near by thanks!

After going there post pandemic (if we are even there), this place has sadly changed for the worse. As many have said, the wings have changed and the prices has skyrocketed. Gone are the days of the giant wing tub that is stuffed to the brim with chicken. Instead, the portions have gone smaller, but the prices have more than doubled. The prices on the website and Facebook are dead wrong. Expect to pay about $4 more than what is posted. Its super sketchy that way. The chicken has changed as its now more sweet and not spicy at all. Still, the wings are good and were a huge hit at the party. However, these are not the same wings that were made at this location for decades. Yes, I understand nothing lasts forever and change will happen, but I mourn the old crazy wings this place used to offer. This will be the last time I sadly come to this location. It was fun while it lasted.

What a pleasant experience, called my order in over the phone and prior to that had talked with the person about pricing of their different items. He was very helpful and pleasant to talk with. Placed an order the day before for a lunchtime pickup. Ordered some kimbap, chap chae, bulgogi, kalbi and chicken wings. The morning of they even gave me a call saying they were running a little behind on time for my pick up order and if I could come a little later. The kimbap was decent, $3/roll, no bulgogi in it but all the other fillings. I would have liked them more tightly rolled but other than that decent. The chap chae was a small sized tray that was decently priced, $17. Heavy on the onions and this one did not have any bulgogi, but flavors were good. The chicken wings were meaty and I thought better than some other places we've had them at. Sticky, crispy and good.

Save your money and go to Bonchon or Super H-Mart or even your local Korean restaurant. This place was amazing and so reasonable. Yes, I said WAS. It no longer is. It seems that there are new owners. The prices are way higher and the taste isn't even close to what they were. There's no zing with a kick of spice. It's like having Chinese sweet and sour chicken wings, but with more honey. If I wanted that, I'd cook it at home myself or eat at my mom's. It's so sad that the new owners aren't keeping to the quality. If the quality was as good or better, I wouldn't mind paying the expensive price for the wings, but it's not worth it. Oh well, onwards to find another small family place that makes good Korean wings.

We ordered several trays of food and it was great. The wings were plump and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside even with their chili honey glaze on top. The japchae was al dente. The mandoo was a hit. At first I thought they were crab rangoons but it was nice to see it made differently. You're able to fit more into a tray. I appreciated the fact that they had card board trays to hold the aluminum trays of food just in case of leaks. This made things more reassuring for my drive. You know the food is going to be good when it's an halmunee (grandma) working the kitchen in the back. It's hard to give this place more stars when they have a clear sign that says "masks are required" but the workers themselves don't have it on. Some didn't put it on til after a few minutes I was inside. The only person I saw wearing the mask the entire time was the cook who was the halmunee. How is it that the people working in the front completely disregard their own sign? The lady working the register never even bothered to put on her mask. Like for real?? If it weren't for the cook, I would've given this place a lower rating. Safety clearly isn't a a concern or a priority here. The sign seems to be just for appearances. Another concern is the fact that that cook (halmunee) is pretty old and is the main draw to the store. The owners aren't Korean anymore, but Filipino now. Not sure how long that setup is going to last.

If you're thinking this is a restaurant, you're wrong. If you think this is a grocery store, you're kind of wrong. They do have a "few" items to buy such as apples and some random sauces for cooming, but their specialty is catering food. They have ready-to-eat items such as kimbap and japchae when you walk in. Otherwise, you can order korean chicken wings, japchae, seasoned kimchi, and other items such as 8 seafood dish. No matter what your thoughts are and your review, they will always have business. Many business, especially churches, cater big orders so they have great business. Don't take it personal is the people don't treat you as nice. They got nothing against you; that's just how they are.

This place has definitely changed. I remember coming here and there would be two Korean husband and wife behind the counter to sell us chicken wings and jap chae. Since I haven't been back to Dong-Ah in years, when we arrived to pick up chicken, we were greeted by a Filipina lady. I am Filipina so we were able to talk about expanding Dong-Ah chicken wings in California since I live in Cali now. We brought home our chicken, but what I notice is that the chicken is not as crunchy anymore with the sauce and the sauce doesn't taste the same as the original Dong-Ah from childhood
