The parking is limited but the hotel staff were extremely helpful in telling us where we can park . It's right on the college campus which added a level of comfort and safety because campus police were literally right next-door! There's a coffee shop, two restaurants, and a 7-Eleven right around the corner. As well as all kinds of additional restaurants and places to go down the street. It's not a large hotel , just one elevator, but the staff were so friendly, the room was clean, and they were able to accommodate us with a rollaway bed. We would stay there again!

I'm gonna try to make this short and (not so) sweet. I say that because The Conwell Inn really isn't that bad, but our experience definitely knocked a few stars off this review. You see my wife and I stayed at The Conwell Inn back at the end of September when we were looking for a reasonably-priced place to spend the night near Philly for a concert. Conwell is actually on the Temple University campus and so it's probably intended more for parents to stay over when visiting their college kids, but the Inn is open to any and all who want book it. Now perhaps the Yelp stars should have been a warning, but nothing noted in the reviews had me that worried. I mean (going a little out of order here) our room was honestly fine to stay over for a night. Yeah there was no mini-fridge and the sink area lacked any counter space so those were small annoyances, but perhaps they could've been more overlooked had our initial entry into The Conwell Inn went differently. Rewinding now, after finding the way into the parking lot area (not an easy feat), we walked into the small but somewhat cozy lobby and waited for the staff member to return. The little golden sign said "Front Desk Will Return In One Moment" and so we stood around for a few of those moments...moments turned into minutes. Nobody seemed to be around. We continued to wait, but tried to troubleshoot this. I went to the cafe next door and asked the people working there but they had no idea. I came back in and my wife was calling the front desk only to hear the phone ring from the back little office we could see into that was empty. There was a bell behind the desk I pulled out and dinged a few times with no results. And I even yelled down the back hall where the laundry sounded like it was being machine washed and there was no answer. Another couple came into the lobby with similar reasons for staying (a concert) and were also amazed that no one was around and there was no way to contact anyone. Finally, a younger man came back in with what looked like a bag from a shopping trip. He apologized, but also pointed out that he left the sign...yeah that sign is helpful only if it was for a moment, but it wasn't! He was friendly and got us checked in fast, but I can't help but think if we were in a rush or there had been an emergency what would have happened. Definitely an unsafe situation and something that I'm sure doesn't happen often (the next morning there were two girls working behind the desk), but I wouldn't be surprised if this has happened before. Overall, The Conwell Inn isn't bad for the price, the room is fine for a night (albeit missing a few things), and the potential proximity to not being in the busier part of Philly is helpful, but throw in that questionable front desk experience and you can forget us ever staying there again. I'll pay a little more to be at an actual hotel and you should do the same.

This inn was one of the cutest we've ever stayed at! It's like a hidden gem, nestled between huge buildings (Temple University). Everything you want or need is within a mile or two. There's tons of security, we felt safe and comfortable coming and going even late at night. Helpful and friendly staff. The only complaints I have are pretty minor: there are no refrigerators in the rooms and the parking is very limited. We paid extra for parking but it wasn't guaranteed. If you left the property, you might not find a parking spot. We attended a concert at The Met so thankfully it was close enough to walk to. Would stay here again and definitely recommend.

I booked this room in February 2022 because I am on a road trip and I was planning to be in Philadelphia the end of October for three nights. I wasn't told this is a place you couldn't pull up right to the front. The front is a walkway. I did see the ramp on their photo on line, however it didn't dawn on me that I would have to bring a cart to my car and then try to bring a cart full of luggage up the ramp to get into the building, I was helped by the front desk person. The day I arrived temp was 70. Room doesn't come with a fridge, you would have to pay for one to have one. So I had ordered one before my arrival. I asked about the AC, she proceeded to tell me that the AC might not work. I'm like excuse me; she said the AC is controlled by the University and they tend to turn it off around this time. I asked what if the room is hot, she just shook her head and said it's out of our control. We went to my room and she checked the air and luckily it was working. There is no phone in the room and there was no fridge that I ordered. She brought up the fridge which looked like a college dorm room fridge, all banged up. There are stains on the wall, and the walls in the bathroom. The room carpet is filthy and stains everywhere including the desk chair. The wallpaper is coming off on various walls in the room. The hallway and elevator is hot and stuffy. Keep in mind this Inn/hotel is on a campus, so you will hear noise throughout the night of partying. No counterspace in the bathroom, but a small glass above the sink. Water fills in the tub ankle deep. My first morning I went to the front desk on my way out and told them how unhappy I was with this lodging and I mentioned the water in the tub. They said they would relay to the manager Justin. I wasn't in my room as I was going out for the two days I was there and I have a dog so they couldn't come in. One morning I saw Justin, I'm sure he saw me. He never attempted to call me or reach out to me regarding my concerns or the bathtub. He totally ignored me I have photos but I will post later, the wifi signal is weak and photos won't post. I do NOT recommend this place.

I've stayed here several times in the past year with our child during her initial college search and then the revisits and ultimately orientation and school events. Initially, we LOVED the Conwell Inn - it was quaint, super clean, and super convenient (on campus with decent eats and a 7-11 steps away, & reserved paid parking). During our first two stays, our rooms were immaculate (and I mean IMMACULATE) and I left a 5 star review. For the last 3 stays, SOMETHING gross was wrong with our room - hairs found in our bed and/or tub, musty smell, visible signs of water damage in our room, stains in carpet/chairs. It's also been frustrating that the front desk staff are performing triple duty (front desk, folding laundry, & cleaning rooms - yes we saw our front desk person toting a cart cleaning rooms the same day she checked us in!) so it's not uncommon to find the front desk unoccupied when you need them. Don't get me wrong, they do always show up so you're not waiting too long, but you don't ever want to be in a rush and someone should at least greet you when you arrive. Let me say too, the staff has always been super friendly. Message to Conwell: if you're frequently not going to be at the front desk, access to the building should be monitored somehow so you can see when folks arrive so they don't have to wait too long OR maybe have doorbell access so unauthorized people don't have access to the building while at the same time you're notified when someone is at the desk. I know I'd feel like a "guest" and safer! All in all, we understand this is a small, old building that was converted from a house, however, the poor condition overshadows the beauty and attraction of the quaintness making this a net negative for my family and me. We've decided we won't be back a fourth time. Some major investment needs to be put into this place and they should attempt to fix the front desk staffing problem. PS: during previous stays, we had daily cleaning. During our last stay, there was none. When did this change?

I wish I could give a better review. It's a cute place with pretty good accommodations. Wish I could recommend the staff. They rarely answer the phone. Always goes to voicemail. Staff are rarely at the check in desk. It's really unfortunate. Could be a really nice place to stay.

What is most important to you? I wanted to be able to walk to my event on campus. I took an Uber to get there so parking was not an issue for me. Room was fine and staff were nice college kids. WIFI did not work. Week signal and unusable. Not sure if just my room has this issue? I did not expect to have this problem on a college campus. I will probably stay again anyway because of the location.

Here is a logistical question for you.... If you make reservations in May, for dates in August, would the hotel management have enough time to contact their pending guests, and let them know that the hotel is CLOSED? We flew in from CA and wanted to stay at the Conwell because it is on the Temple University (not run by the university) campus. I entered the campus police office, next door, and was informed that we are far from the first guests to discover the hotel closed upon arrival, and sadly, won't be the last. YELP! Requires a star rating, but I would give it a -5 if I would. Scrambling for a new hotel while standing on the sidewalk's intersection is the pits.

This place was great. Much better than we were expecting. First, they're pet friendly, but still clean. Rusty had a great time during the visit. The room we got was a nice-sized suite, not bad for $200 all-in including the pet fee. Nice spot on campus and decent parking although a bit annoying to have to pay for parking and finding the lot isn't so easy. Nice friendly staff and cookies and coffee downstairs. Right near the dorms if you're coming to visit someone. I'd definitely stay here again if I'm in the area.

Cozy, clean, can't beat location if you have a student at Temple - right on campus. In the process of updating right now, rooms are nicely decorated but you can see some dings. Bed was comfy, quiet at night. A little squirrelly to find at first - small, easy-to-miss alley leads to parking behind it. Overall I enjoy the cozy feel, friendly staff. Have stayed more than once and will again.
