When you are friends with someone, sometimes you do things that are not your first choice and vice versa. While I like most genres of music, country western is not my favorite. However, I do like some country western artists like Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, George Strait and Shania Twain. Occasionally, I will listen to music from country western greats that have passed on like Johnny Cash or Hank Williams. So, when my friends said let's meet at White Horse to hear some country music, I did not jump for joy. However, I was totally locked in and ready to do a little boot scooting (Yes! I do know how to do country western dances. I used to live across the street from the Broken Spoke.) I was not informed until I arrived, one by one my friends bailed on me. At that point, I had already arrived, so I decided to listen to some country music. The bartender was super friendly and was eager to provide me an alcoholic drink de jour. At this juncture, I did not know how long I would stay, so I opted out of alcoholic drinking. I then asked if they served food. The bartender said that they had a taco truck in the back but would not be open for another hour. I did hang around for while since I was already there. Country western songs were spinning...not exactly sure where the music was coming from...the country music could be clearly heard. The White Horse, located on Comal Street, appears to be an unpretentious, no-frills dive bar with quite a lot of character. According to my friends, this bar draws music lovers and dancers, due to its live music popularity. What bar has whiskey on tap? White horse! Surprising, the prices in White Horse are low. If live country music is your jam, White Horse is the place for you. It could be a fun place for a bachelor | bachelorette party, birthdays, anniversaries, or a night on the town.

Nice dive bar near east 6th. One of the few places you can get a modelo draft for $3. We came early to get a drink before dinner. So there wasnt much going on besides the band setting up. Nice place to 2 step and play some pool. Probably don't expect to find a seat when it gets busy. Your butt belongs on the dance floor or out the door.

The White Horse is a must when in Austin, a highly recommended night out from the locals! Came into town for my best friend's bachelorette trip and we knew one of the night's we would be stopping by The White Horse to learn how to two-step. With a cute theme of denim and diamonds, we got dressed up and headed out for a fun night that began at The White Horse. We were dropped off via uber and it was super easy to get inside with almost no line. Once inside, the place itself is a small-ish dive bar but has a great dance floor with folks that were already learning from the instructor. After grabbing a drink, we headed to the dance floor to learn a step... or two ;) The instructor was great and taught mainly on the stage and would call on folks to come on stage to help her demonstrate. I like how she called on people who seemed to be celebrating something like a birthday or bachelorette. It seems like there were a lot of people from out of town, especially since it was the weekends. The overall two-step class was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone visiting or in town! The regulars were also super friendly and would dance with people after the class is over. The bar itself was a normal dive bar with classic drinks and friendly enough bartenders. Since it was the weekend, they also had a vendor selling things at the front which I thought was cool since they had cool western-style rings and bolo ties. There was also a lot of seating and tables around to hang out at. Overall, a great experience at The White Horse!

The White Horse is awesome! Great Honky Tonk bar! We arrived at 9 and it was pretty slow, there were three couples dancing. We decided to wait until the new band got on stage at 10 and WOW, the whole atmosphere changed the minute the 2nd band hit their first note. Immediately the dance floor was packed. We couldn't figure out where all these people came from but later found out there's an outdoor area on the side you can chill at (with a food truck). This place was just like a movie, guys pulling a different girl to dance to every song. Everyone smiling, laughing, having a grand old time. Highly recommend!! There is a $10/person cash cover but there's an ATM inside.

It's a bar with a live band and two stepping music is played not really a dance club/hall. There is a $10 cash cover to enter (atm is inside). This is not my type of scene but I came for a friend's birthday and tried to make the most of it, lights were dim, music was lively and there were a-lot of people enjoying themselves. The bathrooms weren't very clean!! If a business does not have clean bathrooms I'm less inclined to purchase food or drink because of the germs. I was able to dance with a few people but it seems like the very few advanced dancers gravitate towards the same 1-2 regulars. after a while I just wanted to dance alone and I did. :) I'll probably check out Mavericks again in Buda if I want a great two step dancing experience with a more friendly and diverse crowd!!

Came to learn to 2-step. Which can be intimidating given how good everyone here already was at it. We came early enough to grab a table but they seem to fill up early. Pretty friendly crowd/bartending staff, which encouraged us to try our hand at 2-stepping (not well). Cheap drinks, which helped. The band performing was surprisingly good so that was a treat. The only downside is the parking, which can be a bit difficult in this area (no fault of the bar itself). If you're looking for a night of dancing and music, this is a nice choice.

Great for locals who like do partner line dancing. They only did partner dancing, no line dancing, which I guess is known to the locals lol. Anyways, was a cool spot to check out some live country music. I'm a huge country music fan, and still found the music at times a tad swing-ish. Overall had a good time, but if you're looking for a typical country bar this is not it.

This is the epitome of what i'd call a dive bar. It was a bit early for a visit, before any music had started. So that probably affected my impression of the place. The beer selection was a bit limited and our seats at the bar were close to the bartender who gave quick service. We didn't eat anything as it really didn't seem to be set up for that. Doubt I'll be back unless there were a good entertainer on the stage. But as a quiet, laid back venue, it has a bit of appeal for those who might want to sip a cold one after work.
