It's easy to miss the oldest church in city of London with so much going on - but it's worth a look. I had initially thought I would just have a quick look, but it turns out that my quick look took me through the church and underneath for a really interesting view of some history. There are various bits of information to explain what your looking at, so you don't have to guess! The church is free to enter, with donations welcome.

After visiting the Tower of London, we stopped by All Hallows by the Tower, the oldest church in the City of London, founded in AD 675—centuries before the Tower itself! While the church is beautiful above ground, the real highlight was exploring the crypt, which holds layers of history beneath the streets of modern London.

The crypt contains fascinating artifacts, including a section of a Roman pavement from the 2nd century, evidence of London’s ancient past. There’s also a small museum showcasing Saxon and medieval relics, as well as exhibits on the church’s connection to famous historical figures. William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, was baptized here, and Samuel Pepys witnessed the Great Fire of London from the church tower in 1666.

The atmosphere inside is peaceful, with stunning stained glass windows and memorials dedicated to those lost in war. The church also played a key role in World War II, surviving heavy bombing and serving as a place of refuge.

All Hallows by the Tower is free to visit and open daily:

The oldest church in London. It’s right next to the Tower of London but few tourists venture in here. It’s free to enter and you can make a donation for the upkeep if you like. Best thing to explore is downstairs in the crypt where you’ll see old Roman artefacts and some of the original Roman foot level. There’s a nautical theme to many of the other artefacts in the church and some curious history attached to them. Enjoy!

A beautiful historical building with so much to see. I especially loved the rooms down in the basement level. There's a little museum of sorts and so many historical artifacts, even Roman ruins of paved road. The chapels down below were reverencing-- the whole building was. It's impressive how peaceful a place can be while still in the middle of the huge city of London.

Said to be the oldest church in London, All Hallows is built on a steep embankment leading to Tower Hill giving the structure the unusual banked wall to keep it level. Seen on exit from the Underground Station it dominates the skyline to the West.
