We visited this restaurant for lunch during our holiday in Rome. The vibes inside the restaurant were good and it is conveniently located near the main train station (Roma Termini). The food was good, but they have a different system of ordering via an app and you have to pay a cover charge for each person. They wouldn't show us the physical menu at all and only gave it upon insisting multiple times. The food was delicious and everything arrived in a timely manner. We ordered the kaima idli, parrotta kurma, masal dosa and paneer fried rice - it was all fresh and flavorful.

During our trip to Rome, we visited a well-known South Indian restaurant, expecting an authentic experience. However, our dinner experience was quite disappointing.

First, idly was unavailable for dinner, which was unexpected. Ordering was only possible via a mobile QR code, which felt inconvenient. To make matters worse, fried rice was served without sambhar—only a bland and unappetizing sauce was provided instead.
Utthapam didn’t have onions, sambhar was not really felt like one.

The restaurant also had noticeable hygiene issues. Mosquitoes were freely roaming around, making dining uncomfortable, and the washroom was in poor condition.

On the positive side, the hospitality was decent, but overall, the experience did not live up to expectations.

I've visited several of its branches in London, Paris, and Zurich, and now in Rome. However, today I was extremely disappointed with the food quality. I ordered noodles, but they were served with pieces of dishwashing steel pieces in them. I immediately reported it to the server, but they simply took the dish away without even offering an apology. I strongly urge the restaurant management to be more careful and address such serious mistakes properly. I'm happy that they removed the item from the bill I paid.

To start, the Rava Thosai was not up to par and lacked the texture and flavor one would expect from this classic dish. The Rasam was particularly underwhelming – it was far from satisfactory both in taste and aroma, and I found it to be one of the worst versions I have ever had. The plain Thosai was also lacking in flavor and freshness.

As for the beverages, the mango juice and tea were acceptable, but they couldn’t redeem the meal. Unfortunately, by the next day, I experienced significant stomach pain, which I can only attribute to the food.

Overall, I was disappointed with my experience at Saravana Bhavan. I had high hopes for a good meal, but the food did not meet my expectations, and the aftereffects were quite unpleasant. I would suggest exploring other options for South Indian cuisine in Rome.
