An enchanting atmosphere, exquisite food, and a wonderful host—Bistro Grodlår & Timjan offers one of the best dining experiences I’ve had since arriving in Sweden. The bistro strikes an almost perfect balance between ambiance and cuisine, with each element beautifully complementing the other.

I must give special mention to the restroom. Louise, the host, shared with us that during the quietest part of the Covid pandemic, she embarked on a project to transform the restroom into a theatre for Scandinavian fairy tales. The walls are adorned with fairy tale characters, while immersive narrations softly play in the background. It’s this level of attention to detail that adds to the bistro’s charm. Combined with the delightful food and Louise’s warm, welcoming demeanour, it truly makes for a memorable dining experience.

This was our third visit over a few years, one of us local, the other foreign. I don't know if we got them on a bad night. When booking you get a 2 hour window to eat, but our menus were slow to come, we got our first course after one our, and the second arrived after two hours. Much too long! Yet the bistro was not full.

Of the starters, the mussels tasted overwhelmingly of too much salt. The fish was fine, but the chips with the beef dish were hard, and did not seem recently cooked. I was not asked how I wanted the steak cooked.

At no time were we offered second drinks, and when we finally left, we had to go and ask for the bill. Our previous experiences had been good. This was so disappointing tonight, Båstad needs good restaurants, that can't see us going back in a hurry.. Shame.
