We loved our short trip here. we took the Creole Queen River boat to the park, where we were met by a ranger who gave us an incredibly entertaining version of events. The museum staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions. They even showed off their collection of junior Ranger badges to my son who was enthralled by them. I definitely suggest everyone take the tour and go!

We have been to new Orleans several times but we finally made it to this park. The visitor center summarizes the new Orleans battle and has cemetery. Worth the time if you are in the area.

Really cool site, awesome interpretive center. Happened to show up on the anniversary of the battle so extra cool. Lots of good history and really highlights the importance of this site and battle regarding the War of 1812.

If you're looking for the historic side of New Orleans, this visitor center, battlefield, and cemetery are perfect.
The history is told from both American and British POV. Visitor Center staffed and friendly. Plenty of authentic memorabilia to view and learn about.
Rampart lined with cannons is very ominous.  As you read the stories of the brave men you can almost feel them there still fighting for our freedom.
I wouldn't take small children or older kids with attention deficiencies, but if you enjoy history, and a quiet walk then you'll enjoy Chalmette. To walk the whole battlefield, cemetary and visitor center takes about 2-3 hours. Depending how quickly you hurry through the visitor center.

Great battlefield. Very easy to navigate and walk around to learn how the battle progressed. You can walk the battlefield and drive it with signs all throughout. You can also tour the levees outside the battlefield running along side the Mississippi river.
