After our walking tour guide recommended this place, we decided to pay a visit. The clash with the new part of the library is quite big, but the old library is well worth your time. It is absolutely stunning. The hallways seem to be straight out of a Harry Potter movie. Since it is absolutely free of charge it would be a waste not to visit this place.

We stopped on the off chance, as we were walking past the side entrance and a welcoming smiling attendant welcomed us in. We entered just as a walk around tour was starting. The enthusiasm of the guide made me fall in love with this institution and what it represents … a treasure hold of centuries of history and knowledge created in a neogothic shrine by the devotion of a woman and a wife. Words would not give it credit, just live it and inhale its past and mission….

Walked past several hundred times over the course of time and never actually thought to visit. Quite a cute lil place to visit actually
No so much for the books(Which are all locked away) but to see the building itself. Would 100% recommend as a free thing to do if your in town !

It's quite interesting to see the titles of some of the library's content- not light reading !

Our first visit to Manchester and the first place we visited. Based right in the centre of Manchester and free to visit. Lovely welcome from volunteer. Such stunning and interesting architecture with very interesting background regarding the actual building. Very well maintained and a great find. Well worth a visit for any age.

Having walked past this place many times in the past and not really know what was inside, we decided to make sure on our most recent visit to dip inside.

So glad we did, the library has an amazing inner hall with a collection of books going back many years.

There is plenty of information cataloguing the establishment of the library, how the books and collection is maintained.

Peppered throughout were students making use of the desks for study so I would recommend any visitors respect that this is a place of study when visiting.

Well worth the time to stop by when in the city centre.
