Be prepared fore a lot of walking and a lot of stairs! Other than that, this is a great state park and a hidden gem that should definitely be a part of your visit. A large fort complete with a filled mote! Tons of cannons and ammunition on display. You are allowed to explore almost all parts of the fort, putting you in the shoes of the men who fought here.
If the fort isn't your thing, this park offers the only real beach on the island; and it is beautiful! Has picnic tables and grills if that's your thing. Tons of seashells! The other beaches in Key West all have their sand trucked in from Miami every morning (seriously), but this beach is a wonderful and real one.

One of my most beloved locations in Key West. As a native of the Florida Keys, I find great pleasure in taking day trips there. I enjoy exploring the fort and then taking a stroll along the trail that leads to the beach. There, one can enjoy a refreshing beverage or delicious food at the beachfront cafe or cool off in the ocean's waters. The pine trees provide a welcoming shade and a refreshing breeze.

Amazing state park with nice beaches, picnic tables and lots of parking. There is an entrance fee to enter the park but it's worth it. For me it was more about the clear beaches and endless blue water. There are some coconut trees as well which are very picturesque. Nice place to take a swim. There are some trails along by water and some by the trees into the park as well. Definitely a place to spend half a day. There are lots of tress so there is shade if you prefer that. There are restrooms as well.

Good beach, lots of picnic tables in the wooded area facing beach. There's a snack shack, restrooms but shower is outdoor and only 1 out off 3 worked.

The beach has chairs and umbrella you can rent. Water closer to beach is shallow, up to chest of an adult, water is very clear. There are three or four rock formations about 15 to 20 feet away from the beach. Folks swam upto these rock formation, some were snorkeling. I think you have to be a good swimmer to swim up to the rock formations. There are no lifeguards. At 11 am on a Monday it was little bit choppy and waves were pushing us. We snorkeled very close to the beach. When it's calmer it should be great to snorkel here. Plenty of parking.
