Come to Åstol. Leave your car; leave your worries; get away from life for a few hours, and leave feeling refreshed.

I was given a warm welcome, and was served drinks quickly. I had a prawn sandwich - which doesn't sound like much - but it was presented beautifully, and tasted amazing.
The beer was very tasty too, especially after a morning cycling. I even made friends with Leo the dog - very cute!

I came to Åstol by mistake*  - but I am very glad I did!
You should visit - either on purpose, or by mistake. Just check the ferries first!

*I thought I could get another ferry to Marstrand on the same day, but there wasn't on. The friendliness shown by the owner saved me 4 hours of cycling! A true gentleman.)

Reminds me of the story of the rich man that stops for a homeless man, opens his wallet..gives the homeless man nothing, and walks off. Here, we were happy to wait 55 minutes for the very pricey smoked fish and prawn platter. And yet when it arrived, we learned the extra 10 minutes it took was used to overcook the very modest portion of fish, and yet not long enough for the potatoes to be warm, as promised. Everything else was passable, though the three sauces were essentially identical, and their beer is good. But you come here by car and then boat and pay the big bucks for great smoked fish. As the beggar said as the rich guy walked away "yeah, nah".

Terrible customer service. The staff were incredibly rude! They treated us like we were children and talked down to us. I’m not sure if it’s a question of racism or just their poor customer service skills and lack of education. Thankfully the food was lovely! My wife is Asian and we’re English & Swedish.

Simply a fantastic restaurant, helpful and friendly staff with excellent food. The seafood soup is a knockout. Amazing deep taste with the perfect amount of heat. A shrimp sandwich is hard to mess up but this is a generous one with fantastic flavours and then the crown jewel, the smoked shrimp plate. Juicy, smoky and just lovely shrimps. They often tend to go a bit dry but not in Åstols smokery. Then add the view to the mix and it's a clear 5/5.

A really good place to have a lunch, with amazing hosts. What else you want, great food, beautiful location and wonderful hosts, it’s the best combination :)
