I was given a gifted afternoon tea experience at the Royal Horse Guard, which I had been looking forward to. However, considering the price she paid, I don’t believe the food or service met the expected standard.

We arrived 7 minutes early and were told to wait until 1pm to be seated. We assumed they would escort us to our table at that time, but when others who had just arrived started forming a queue, we had to join in. As a result, it took at least 20 minutes from when we entered to when we were finally seated.

When the afternoon tea was served, it was clear the sandwiches weren’t freshly made, the scones were smaller than usual, and the waiter didn’t explain what each dessert or sandwich was (a standard part of any afternoon tea). The menus had been taken, so we had no way of identifying the items. My friend, who avoids alcohol, had to ask if any of the desserts contained alcohol, and thankfully she did because one of the items did. This is a serious oversight, as people could have dietary restrictions, be pregnant, or follow faiths that prohibit alcohol, and they should have been informed in advance.

There was only one staff member looking after the area where we were seated, which led to slow service. It took 45 minutes for our platter to arrive, and we had to keep flagging down the server to request more tea.

Given the price she paid, I’m disappointed and shocked by the lack of quality in both the food and the staff. This doesn’t even account for the service charge, which was an additional cost on top of everything else.

For a 5-star hotel, this experience was far below the expected standards.

Our stay at The Royal Horseguards Hotel in Westminster was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality by the friendly and attentive staff, who made sure every detail of our visit was perfect.

The location is unbeatable—situated right on the Thames, offering breathtaking views overlooking the London Eye and some of the city's most iconic landmarks. Whether day or night, the view from our room was absolutely stunning.

Speaking of rooms, ours was spacious, elegantly decorated, and incredibly comfortable. The bed was plush and cozy, ensuring a restful night’s sleep after a long day exploring London. The attention to detail in the decor and amenities made our stay feel truly luxurious.

One of the highlights was the fantastic dining experience. Breakfast was a real treat, with a wide variety of delicious options to start the day right. For dinner, we indulged in the 20oz Tomahawk steak, which was cooked to perfection—juicy, flavorful, and absolutely mouthwatering. The restaurant’s ambiance was perfect, and the service was impeccable.

Overall, The Royal Horseguards Hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. The combination of stunning views, prime location, luxurious rooms, top-notch dining, and outstanding service makes it an excellent choice for anyone visiting London. We can’t wait to return!

CREAM OF THE CROP! I unknowingly booked The Royal Horseguards Hotel for a birthday getaway with my wife and son. Upon taking the short walk from Embankment arose out of the earth, the stunning masterpiece that is the Horseguards. The staff was very welcoming, and check-in was a breeze. Centrally located to all of the top attractions, we were more than pleased with our stay. With an endless amount of food options surrounding we had no problems with hunger. The great news is we will be staying again in November as we Americans have decided to skip Thanksgiving and live the british way of life for the week. See yall soon!!!

Lovely old world hotel with immense charm and history. Great location, lovely views, tasty food, and most importantly, wonderful staff. Eliecer, the concierge we dealt, with was the most charming, hospitable and professional person, and we couldn’t be more impressed. They were incredibly friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was seamless. Their attention to detail and genuine care for guests was evident in everything they did. A huge thank you to him and all the staff at the hotel.

This hotel looks like a palace from the outside. Rooms are big but a little out dated but looking back 15 years- 20 years it would be pretty amazing. The rooms have everything you need. Very comfortable beds and very clean rooms. Location is fantastic just next to the London eye and the other side by the strand. So you have museums and broadway shows at your feet.

Staff interaction. 1. I stayed there Jan 11th for 4 nights and as yet I still haven't received my deposit back, despite calling the hotel and being told that I would within 24h and they would email me to confirm- no email# I was told when checking out it would be in my account in 24/48 hours and almost 3 weeks later no sign. 2. On a very serious matter where my daughter and I were followed by a non resident into the lift and he then proceeded to try and find out what our room number was. We were very frightened by this. I had to wait over an hour in the lobby to speak with a manager. They didn't even have the courtesy to sit me down and discuss. I was rattled by the interaction and felt unsafe and I was told to email the hotel and the emails kept bouncing back. I posted a letter and have had no response. I thought they would have checked the cctv and reported the incident to the police. As of today no refund and no response.

Very poor facilities, our bedroom didnt have heating for 2 days, the personal didnt help at all to fix it, 1 lift is out of order for months and it made the whole stay very uncomfortable. Finally we asked for a compensation and to speak with the manager but the manager was never available and as we paid via booking they didnt take any responsibility and requested to go via Booking (which by the way we havent heard back). They are not a 4 stars hotel, neither their customer service culture.

The only room that the hotel had available had leaky windows. It was cold and windy in the room. When asking at the reception for another room we were told that it was the only available one and that we would be invited to leave, if we are not happy with the offer. We asked for a free cancellation, which was confirmed at the reception. We are still waiting for the refund of the cancellation fee. The hotel is trying to rip-off its customers.

See above. Absolutely horrendous. I restrained from writing a review but since no one has responded to my messages I am hoping this might get someone’s attention. I am starting to think I should have made a fuss in reception at the time but it seemed hardly fair given the manager promptly disappeared once she told me she cancelled the room.

Firstly on check we were kept waiting over 30 minutes. They refused an early check-in. They couldn't give us keys said they machine not work .We went out came back 6 hours later still had a key problem. Tried calling housekeeping concierge and front desk more than 30 mins phone just rings no one answer it. We came down in the lift went to reception where they messed about another 30 mins finally got the key no apology nothing. Then they tried to blame booking .com about the keys to which l replied that's ridiculous the 2 systems are separate. Very bad staff attitude. 2 tiny bottle of water in the room. No toothbrushes in the room. Asked for water in the morning took 45 mins to get it by which time it's too Late. On Check out as previously organised l wanted the bill in joint names rude obnoxious staff refused. The foyer and lift look tatty and not well maintained. At £426 total rip off. Breakfast ok nothing special lack of staff even to order a cup of tea at the table. In conclusion,l give it 1 out of 10 and that's for location. Would never use or recommend this hotel even to my worst enemy. Shocked and disappointed with all of it and staff lousy couldn't give a damn attitude. My advice to anyone thinking of booking, use a different hotel as this one is terrible

Poor room even though it was an upgraded river view. Old facilities, who even uses an iPod now. TV didn't work properly. Shower was terrible.

lt cost me £2000 to a room for 1 night to watch Christmass london eye fire work show... Prior to new year eve l peraonally came to hotel reception and spoken to lady to make sure room given 7th floor like last year..Deapite this l found out when check in new year eve, she reserved 4th floor and no view as blooked by the trees..very upset..room changed to 6rh floor but was the same...Terrible experience !!!!!!!!

Upgraded to a ‘triple room’ did not receive link to my email to pay, presumed all was well. Not so… Made to wait 1.5 hours in foyer while our room was prepared. A camp bed was the triple bed (wholly unsuitable for an adult). The room was pokey, there were just two cups (for 3 guests). Receptionist told me I was wasting my breath and she would release me from my booking so I could find somewhere else to stay if I wasn’t prepared to wait. We had an event to attend and had to resort to doing our hair in the ladies bathroom which was small and not particularly clean. A laughable five star experience. I do not believe any guest deserves to be treated as we were. I have since written to the hotel and received no response.

We were very disappointed that our allocated room 121 had no window . On the website it says that rooms over look the river city and garden .

Tired old rooms, quite dirty and rundown. Breakfast was very average and the vibe was like a department store cafeteria. Staff were incompetent, rude or both. We checked out early and moved to the Radisson Blu Edwardian Bloomsbury which was an absolute delight. On checkout there were multiple other guests at the desk complaining and asking for their money back. Days later, our tour guide told our group as we passed Royal Horseguards that the hotel of the same name looks nice from the outside but has really gone downhill. Says it all…

Standard room for £250 was very basic and had not natural light and frosted window which faced inwards and very claustrophobic this was not made clear on Booking.com description and I would not have booked if I had known this.

After much waiting was given inferior room than one pre paid for. After much messing about we decided to leave and got a refund. Not impressed.

The service was was awful every where. Especially the main restaurant , the staff had no idea how to serve serve food and the food was poor quality and the bar staff were unfriendly unprofessional

Everything else - terrible service, from checkin to check out, nobody had a clue of what they were doing, it took 6 hours to get a bed for our child in the room and the cleaner lied to the hotel manager saying it was there when in fact it wasn't. They had a massive argument in front of us. Dinner was served 1.5h late despite having pre-booked our courses. Most of the staff was really trying its best but fundamentally they haven't been trained properly and the whole organisation was really, really poor. Not great considering that we choose this hotel for our wedding weekend and we were there with family and friends.

Rooms not clean. No bottled water in room only provided on day 3. Chewing gum on linen. Ammenities not replenished. Breakfast poor. House keeping staff unfriendly.

The fire alarm at 1.30 AM and the after service that went with it: primary goal is sleep and that was totally destroyed. From the alternatives on how you could have dealt with this, you chose alternative: « tell customers the (faulty) fire equipment is there to help them, that at least we did not do a full evacuation so bugger off »….: really? Of all the commercial tools at your disposal, you choose this one??

I could only stay one night and didn’t get to explore the hotel amenities to really experience everything.

Excellent location, quiet, relaxing, good sweets

Rooms and hotel need some renovation. Room was bit too cold having old historic windows and automatically switching off aircon.

That the contents of the fridge only contained one bottle each of still & sparkling water. One normal coke and one diet, not one of each, one little bar off chocolate and one bag of popcorn. So basically for one not two people. Also it was supposed to be a twin room, but it was two mattresses put on a double base. So there was no separation between my friend and I.
